I think the first half, the first quarter

went about as bad as you thought it

could go.

I mean, there was very little to take

away positive.

You actually, I felt like maybe minus the

fourth down call, Sark really calling a pretty

decent game early on.

That fourth and short call was a bit

bewildering to me.

The University of Texas, man, like, come on,

why are we getting cute on fourth down?

But a lot of missed opportunities today, a

lot of poor execution.

This whole night, really up until this point,

it has shown how expensive mistakes against an

elite team, oil and water, man, you cannot

make as many mistakes as the Longhorns have

had and consistently expect to be in a

ball game against good teams like Ohio State.

You're defying that a little bit today and

credit to Texas for making a comeback.

You have a, what, two turnovers tonight?

Ohio State, they have done a pretty good

job taking care of the football, haven't they?

I mean, you have no interceptions, no fumbles.

Texas almost had a third with the Niblett

off the face mask on the punt.

Yeah, the Longhorns, three quarters without a touchdown.

They've come on strong here in the fourth,

scoring two, and it is a one-score

game.

Buckeyes have a tight six-point lead, seven

minutes and 15 seconds.

expecting him to be able to corral that

bad luck.

I mean, the Coleman play, that's just bad

luck to me.

Coleman's got to secure that ball.

It's just bad luck in the sense that

the ball pops right up to the defender.

Raleek Brown, I know that the slot receiver

just didn't do a great job blocking on

that screen.

So I don't think that the Raleek Brown

fumble to begin the game is really all

his fault.

But I will say, you're stopping your feet

in the backfield like Raleek Brown did.

I understand he had someone kind of bearing

down on him.

But any time you're stopping your feet like

that in the backfield, it's not going to

go super great for you.

So I think Raleek Brown, he's done well

to make some good plays and recover a

little bit in this one.

But it's been a bit of a rough

one for him.

He had the third down play where he

ran out of instead of putting his shoulder

down.

That was right before halftime.

Not Raleek Brown's best moment.

guys are going to get opportunities because defenses

are going to be trying to take Coleman,

Wingo, and eliminate those deep threats.

if you're Coleman, the one that eventually turned

into the interception.

Hollywood Smothers, got to show him some love

too.

Hollywood was the closer tonight.

He was the closer, man.

They had Smothers trying to ice the ball

game, and you know what?

He was getting stuck there a little bit,

but it actually worked out in Texas' favor

because it killed more clock, but to me,

this feels like a remember the name moment

for Hollywood.

You look new to school, dual threat, double

-headed monster.

You got Brown as well, but Hollywood is

doing it with the hands out of the

backfield, and he is running hard between the

tackles, between the guards, man.

Hollywood definitely deserves his respect as well for

what he did today.

Jeremiah Smith, he was incredible tonight for Ohio

State.

I know got some Ohio State fans hanging

lose, a lot of the times it's crickets.

It's about time that the Longhorns finally won

a game.

I mean, seriously, Ohio State, the better team

for the last two years that the Longhorns

have played them, and Ohio State's still, in

my opinion, a very, very good team and

one bad kick away from winning this football

game, and there's more to it than that.

The defense faded a bit in the second

half for the Buckeyes after an incredible first

half.

It was actually the tale of two halves.

Buckeyes' defense was elite in the first half,

bad in the second half, and it flipped

for the Longhorns.

Bad, and I wouldn't even say it was

terrible by the defense because the defense was

working with a short field like for three

straight possessions, so I can't even say the

defense was bad for Texas, but it wasn't

great.

It wasn't outstanding, and then in the second

half for Texas, that's exactly what it was.

Jeremiah Smith, he did exactly what we feared

he was going to do, which is have

a big game, break containment, exploit one-on

-one matchups.

I have no clue why they had Jeremiah

Smith in any one-on-one coverages.

The single coverage on Jeremiah Smith just felt

stupid every time I saw it.

Look, I know that Ohio State has a

lot of different weapons.

You double cover Jeremiah Smith every single play.

It's going to get a little dicey, but

I felt like he was open way too

much in single coverage tonight.

Look, if you throw it to him in

double, and he finds a way to come

down with it, credit to him, but there

were many times single coverage on Jeremiah Smith.

I mean, Muschamp.

I guess that's some confidence in the DBs,

but at the same time, my brother, you

might want to have a little bit of

help over the top against the best wide

receiver in college football.

He did have a couple of drops.

of drops in crunch time and clutch time.

I still say, I mean, the defense giving

up 21 unanswered there.

incompletions today from him.

It was a collective on each side, the

They were, it's, it's not really an arguable

deserved to be in the playoff last year.

The committee was in a tough spot, only

I think it would have set a very

I'm glad he didn't because these games are

outstanding for college football and for the city

a diehard of the Longhorns win or lose.

This game was a treat.

I, this game was probably going to be

one of the best games of the year.

If not the best game of the year,

we'll see what plays out the rest of

It was the right thing to do to

Is it risky in today's state of college

I think that the Longhorns are going to

look back after this one subsides a little

bit and be very thankful they did not

Look, we talked about the defense.

The defense deserves a ton of credit.

Ohio State finished with 372 total yards, but

Texas shut them out in the fourth quarter.

Julian Sayin, one touchdown, one interception, did not

complete passes at a great cliff tonight.

And the defense by no means had, did

they have a perfect night, but they had

a winning fourth quarter.

And that's how I feel about Arch Manning

too.

It wasn't a perfect night, but it was

a winning fourth quarter.

That's for sure.

Incredible that Texas won this game without winning

the turnover battle.

Texas, of course, had a couple of turnovers

tonight.

You had Ohio State with the one interception

at the end of the game.

Pretty impressive.

And that one interception, by the way, that's

not even really one that I would count

being that it happened on the last play.

So Texas found a way, essentially a two

turnover difference, two turnover margin, right?

To still win this game.

That is impressive.

It's pretty wild.

They somehow survived it.

That's what you got to do.

It's not always going to be clean.

They somehow survived it.

They can't make a habit out of this.

Granted, they're not going to play a lot

of teams at the level of Ohio State,

but they can't make a habit out of

this.

But for tonight, they figured out a way.

And at the end of the day, that

scoreboard reads 24-23.

And Texas now goes into next week flying

high.

It's going to be tough, like I said,

to play UTSA next week after a big

game like this.

But nevertheless, I think this is the kind

of win that can change a season.

Texas 2-0.

It's not just a nice win.

You beat the number one team in the

country after being down 20 entering the fourth.

That becomes a reference point, a turning point

in the season, in my opinion, and moving

forward for the rest of the year.

Anytime Texas is in some trouble later, everybody

in that locker room now knows that they've

come back from something that's probably going to

be worse.

I don't think Texas is going to find

themselves trailing by 20 a lot in the

fourth quarter this year.

It feels like this is about the worst

punch you're going to take and about the

worst thing that you're going to have to

come back from this year.

Big moment for the locker room.

This is ultimately, though, kind of where I

keep landing, right?

You can love what Texas showed in the

fourth quarter and still admit there's room for

improvement, which is kind of scary.

This team has not even reached its ceiling

yet, and you just beat the number one

team in the nation.

LSU is going to be tough.

This one is going to be tough.

LSU is going to be a challenge, no

doubt.

But again, you've created margin tonight.

You've created valuable margin tonight.

You have an opportunity to now have a

little bit of a better shot running through

has a level of fight that we had

not really been forced to see yet.

the fourth quarter, they still found a way.

I don't think there were a lot of

Longhorns fans really counting on a dub after

that third quarter of play.

You're down 20 points.

This team showed you that they've got some

fight in them.

They've got some dog in them, and I

think this is going to bode very well

for them moving forward.

Still a little unsure about the offense, if

I'm being real.

The first three quarters were not amazing, and

I hope that you can maybe just chalk

this one up to really good defense from

Ohio State, really good team, and it's all

downhill from here.

That would be phenomenal, but I'd like to

see a little more consistency with this offense.

Absolutely.

Next thing I'm watching, can Texas take some

of the lessons learned today and apply them

moving forward?

I know UTSA is not necessarily going to

be the next best stop to see that,

to evaluate that, but I would love to

see Texas take this, look at some of

the issues from tonight, and just become even

sharper.

That is the scariest takeaway for me.

You won this football game, and you didn't

even play your best football.

All right.

Look, on deck, UTSA, they come to Austin

next Saturday, close out Texas non-conference schedule,

then the Longhorns will go to Tennessee.

And you've got Tennessee in Knoxville on, what

is that, the 26th?

There you go.

Clean up the turnovers.

I'd love to see a zero, a goose

egg against a team like UTSA.

Control the ball.

Don't spend three quarters waiting for the offense

to wake up.

And I'd like to see Arch come out

sharp, build on this fourth quarter, keep on

that positive, that upward trajectory, man.

And Hollywood Smothers, I know Sark said it's

going to be a two-headed monster out

of the backfield.

I kind of feel like Hollywood earned it

a little bit.

I'm not saying that you go away from

Raleek.

I think Raleek had some bad moments in

this game, but he had some great runs.

I think that he is going to be

a great change of pace.

I kind of think in a big game

like this, you really saw Smothers shine.

He's valuable out of the backfield, between the

tackles, between the guards.

He showed you that on the goal line.

He can catch the football out of the

backfield as well.

I think you might be seeing Hollywood Smothers

take over the lion's share a little bit.

I feel like he was another one that

earned some respect tonight, no doubt.

I think next week you use it as

a bit of a correction week, fine-tuning

week, if you will, before you go and

you play in Knoxville on the road.

A challenging environment for sure, but a place

I think Texas can get a win.

Texas, I think, in that game will be

favored.

Tennessee ranked number 18.

They beat Georgia Tech today.

I don't know who Tennessee has next week.

I'll see if I can get the Tennessee

schedule up for you guys real quick.

Tennessee plays a good old Kennesaw State.

They played Furman, Georgia Tech, and Kennesaw State.

So Texas is going to be a pretty

rude awakening for them, needless to say.

Right now DraftKings has Texas as a seven

-point favorite on the road in Knoxville, seven

-point favorite in that Tennessee game.

Things can change, but right now that's telling

you something.

If you factor in the three-point home

field advantage, if you're not into the sports

betting, sports gambling, typically they say home field

advantage worth a field goal or so, give

or take.

So if this was being played at DKR,

it might be a minus 13.

That's the kind of swing we're talking about.

Neutral field, minus 10.

Definitely going to be an interesting couple of

weeks here.
