Alstrom and Gray have been overhyped.

You know, I wouldn't say overhyped.

I think it's a little unfair.

Like, these guys, they're rookies, man.

Like, honestly,

if we're being totally real,

Gray and Alstrom never should have really

had to be put in this position.

Rangers should have gone out and gotten

some good, solid relief pitching.

And I'm not saying that to...

pipe down Alstrom or gray,

but they just never should have been in

this position where they're not just like

up at the big league level as depth.

They're like dependent on as the guys to

bridge to lats and a bridge to Junis.

I know that he's been off and on

with the injuries,

but I think we're all on the same

page here.

Like the fact that Robbie Alstrom has to

be used in high leverage here in a

one run game.

It's,

It's nothing against Robbie,

but it just shows you exactly what the

state of this team is right now and

the lack of what they did or should

have done in the offseason.

I mean, look,

I do feel like these guys have solid

futures.

So I get the sentiment here by saying

they're overhyped.

G-Man,

I just think it is a direct consequence

of putting these guys into situations that

they probably shouldn't have had to be in

in their rookie year, right?

I mean...

I found myself definitely hyping up these

guys because it's all we've got.

And yes,

Robbie Alstrom has been very good since

the All-Star break.

Peyton Gray, by and large,

has been solid as well.

But they should never have had to be

in this situation.

Guillermo, what's good, my guy?

I would say it feels like a lot.

I would love to know the numbers,

but obviously the Rangers give up the solo

home run to Butler with two down.

In the bottom of the sixth,

they give up the solo home run to

McNeil with two down.

So look, prisoner of the moment here,

it does feel like a lot.

It feels like a lot right now.

Can we get a better front office?

That is an interesting conversation.

Coming into this year,

I said very clearly,

Chris Young is on the hot seat.

He should be on the hot seat if

he's not.

And so I think after this year,

the big question is going to be,

did they make the playoffs?

And what did they do in the playoffs

if they did make it?

I think the answer to those two questions

are really going to determine,

maybe not immediately,

but at least in the following season,

what CY's future is going to be.

A strong part of me still feels like

Ray Davis is going to give Chris Young

the opportunity to rebuild,

much like John Daniels got the opportunity

to rebuild after the World Series runs.

And that's not unprecedented.

I do think a lot of us have

CY fatigue.

He definitely, I think, got elevated.

Talking about overhyped, G-Man.

And look, this isn't a shot at you,

my guy.

I'm just stealing your word here.

Talk about overhyped.

I mean,

see why coming out of that championship

and then even into twenty twenty five.

I think everybody,

maybe even myself included to an extent,

was definitely in see why we trust mode.

But I feel like looking back,

the benefit of hindsight,

how overhyped was CY coming off that

championship?

How overhyped was CY as Corey Seager

strikes out on three straight pitches?

Look,

Chase still set another CY masterclass.

Am I right?

Another CY Masterclass Chase Silseth

giving up the solo shot immediately after

the emotional.

I'll say emotional.

That's a big home run from Jake Berger.

And let's totally contextualize that bomb.

He does it off a left-handed pitcher.

We've been talking about this all week

long.

Berger,

eight hundred plus OPS against lefties.

He did exactly what he's supposed to do.

Give you an elite performance against

Southpaws.

And I think that it's more and more

clear.

Maybe this guy just needs to be a

platoon against the left-handed bats.

I think we've seen so much of Jake

Berger's struggle against righties that

when he actually runs into one against a

lefty, it's like, dude got lucky.

Zeke Duran's going to double here with one

out in the top of the eighth,

so Rangers are in business here.

Look, I don't think that was luck.

I don't think Berger just happened to run

into one there.

He's been good against lefties.

Really, though,

what we're talking about is, hey,

just kind of like Jock Peterson and what

they decided to do with him,

hitting him leadoff,

only hitting him against righties.

Maybe you get Berger some confidence back

sitting him against some righties and

playing him a little more exclusively

against the lefties.

Looks like the A's are going to make

a little pitching change here.

They're going to bring in a righty here

to face Berger.

Smart move.

They are not going to let Berger face

a lefty.

Very,

very wise move here from the Oakland A's.

He's on a different level against

I am definitely interested to see how this

AB goes.

You'd love to see Berger connect here,

little excited if that happens.

But I'm just going to settle for a

he has just not been great since he

came over from the Angels.

It feels like, yes,

there have been some shutout innings, but,

man, everything feels difficult.

It feels like every other outing that he's

had with the Rangers has been always...

I just think it's a perfect picture of

where we're at in Rangers baseball in

We're having to use advanced stats.

We're having to use split stats to gas

up certain players.

Justin Foskey has one hundred and ten at

bats and I think in his career against

lefties.

And he kind of has this reputation now

as this lefty crusher that is totally

unable to be removed from that role

because of how good he's been.

I don't see it that way at all

with Justin.

I think he's been solid.

Has he done so much that he's

irreplaceable?

He's like this irreplaceable fixture?

No!

Foscue was definitely on a bit of a

heater there, but man,

you get rid of Foscue tomorrow.

It's not going to make a difference in

this team's winning or losing capability.

Come on now.

You get rid of Foscue tomorrow,

it's not going to affect the team's

win-loss at all.

So, look, calling up Walcott to DH,

the only thing is they might not want

to start the clock.

They might want to try and keep as

much control over him as possible,

and I get it.

But, you know,

Justin Foskey's three for his last

fifteen, man.

He's four for his last twenty-six.

Think about how many just strictly platoon

Let's immediately sub him out.

We do that with so many players on

this lineup.

I'm so tired of gassing up platoon

players.

Some of these guys,

I know it's organizational to an extent.

Maybe you can't blame them.

It's the manager's choice at the end of

the day to sub them out,

but we have half of this offense is

platoon players.

You can't play them every day.

It's just not it for me.

I'm not at all in love with having

half the roster in terms of bats.

Half the bats on the team are platoon

guys.

intentional with CY?

I think that it's a way.

I'm genuinely kind of going a little

tinfoil hat on this.

It's a way to be cheap,

but at the same time,

you can kind of gas up

a mediocre player by just using their

splits.

Like I don't want to get down this

rabbit hole,

but people do it with Evan Carter all

the time.

Like the argument with Evan for so long

is he's an above average hitter against

righties.

His, you know, his WRC plus his,

his OPS it's good against righties.

It just feels a little bit like an

excuse to hype up players that aren't that

good.

and make it look like you're trying.

So like with CY and some of the

guys that he's brought on,

it's like they hit eight hundred plus OPS

against lefties, against righties.

And you keep acquiring players like that.

This is kind of what you get, man.

It's like you don't have a lot of

solid players.

You just have a lot of role players.

You have a lot of depth players.

And that's where we're at.

Diaz, by the way, loses the battle.

He's going to ground out to the pitcher

Evan Carter up to bat.

He did break up the no-hitter in the

fifth.

And look, from there,

the Rangers were able to put some runs

on the board thanks to Jake Berger and

over the last few years is,

We just got so spoiled with Beltre and

with Elvis.

We got so spoiled with those guys.

You know, MY, his ultimate teammate.

I know some people bag on MY because

he requested trades.

That whole roster loved MY.

Loved MY.

I mean, look, there's no question there.

Everybody knows it's a business.

Everybody knows it's a business.

that team loved them.

Why?

And there were so many lovable guys that

were all in.

And I think we're just not used to

it as Rangers fans.

We just, I mean, for me, the,

the core memories of the early two

thousands and the twenty tens teams are,

I mean,

you just had a lot of great personalities,

a lot of great figures,

and a lot of team stuff, man.

And so it definitely, at this point,

it's a tough thing to go from that

to this,

especially when it's a player like Corey

who's supposed to be your best player,

right?

I mean, for a long time,

Hall of Famer Adrian Beltre was our best

player.

Beltre was always leader, talking to guys,

right?

Bringing the team together, right?

And so it's hard when you don't quite

have that.

Nimmo going to ground out for the final

out of the ball game.

Kumar Rocker definitely looks settled

after his three-run first inning.

But, you know, after that,

Rangers just weren't able to get a whole

lot done.

They had one big swing from Berger.

not a whole lot of offense to speak

of.

Rangers limited to four hits tonight.

You had Berger with the big one.

Duran had two hits.

Carter had another.

Rangers walked six times today,

so they did have a little bit of

traffic on the base pass, right?

You had ten total base runners tonight.

I mean, that's not nothing.

But they just didn't do enough.

You're playing, you know,

a guy in jump with... At the time,

I think he was right around, you know,

four, whatever, four-fifty,

something like that.

I think that's what he finished on

tonight.

So Seth takes the loss,

gives up the home run to...

to McNeil right after the burger bomb

that, that really crushed it.

I said, still set jokingly.

I mean,

I don't know how much of a joke

it is.

It's actually becoming reality.

So Seth is just not worked out yet.

Kind of another CY masterclass in trades,

if we're being real.

Look, he's only had four or five games.

I know maybe I'm being a little harsh,

but Silseth has not looked great since

coming over from the Angels.

Just hasn't looked great.

You didn't really give up much to get

Silseth,

so I think really going in hard on

CY about the Silseth trade is...

just another thing to stack if so seth

totally falls on his face and really is

just like this mid innings innings eater

guy it's just going to be another notch

there's a few different angles that you

can take.

that appreciate how he settled,

I just can't at all really spin that

Very deflating for a team.

And then you walk five guys.

Rocker just continues to reiterate just

the general feeling around this Rangers

rotation that you just can't trust

anybody.

It's very weird.

We're in a weird place when Cal Quantrill

is the guy you trust the most in

the rotation right now.

I mean, I'm dead serious.

Even over DeGrom and Evo, I mean,

right now,

Cal Quantrill is probably the guy I feel

best about taking the ball.

Agreed?

I mean,

who do you feel better right now?

Cody Bradford, maybe?

I mean, you could throw Cody in there,

I guess, but he's only started twice.

I think Cal Q is the guy you

feel the best about right now.

I mean,

that is a perfect picture of where we're

at in twenty twenty six.

If that doesn't tell you something.

Our most trusted pitcher is Cal Q.

I mean,

you just have no clue what you're getting.

And we are in such a conundrum with

Rocker, though.

I feel like they have dug their heels

in so much on Kumar that you really

I mean, at this point,

if you demote him,

it's such a failure for the organization.

Like that's a real tail tucked between the

legs kind of moment for them.

You're sending him down after not doing it

to begin this season.

He probably does need to go down to

AAA.

We just don't have the depth right now.

But Kumar Rocker absolutely needs to go

down to AAA and just get right.

You can't be walking five guys,

not covering first base.

He needs to be down at the AAA

level.

He really does.

I just don't think the Rangers have the

depth right now to get it done.

Look, a couple other things here.

I'm going through my notes of the game.

I know we'll go a lot of different

directions tonight.

Berger giving the game a pulse.

That was great.

He's definitely a different hitter against

lefties.

I hope the Rangers continue to give

thought to platooning him.

I've noticed there's been a couple of

games here and there that they have taken

him out.

That, to me, is the way.

He's a much better hitter against lefties.

I'd like to see them start benching Berger

against righties.

Immediately when the righty came into the

game against Berger,

three-pitch strikeout,

didn't even get the bat off of his

shoulder, got all fastballs.

The first pitch was right down the middle.

Then the last two were painted,

but nonetheless...

That is absolutely where I would be going

at this point with Jake Berger.

Great homer tonight.

Appreciate it.

It was definitely huge at the time in

that inning.

But then when you see the contrast with

Berger against righties,

I just think it becomes really,

really obvious.

Something of note,

which I had someone point out to me,

Alejandro Osuna was not in the lineup

tonight,

but he did play first base last night.

So they are getting Osuna first base reps

down at AAA.

Something to watch.

It's something that I've thrown out there

as an idea to get him more ABs

at the big league level.

I do think that this could play.

You have Alejandro Osuna as your first

baseman against righties.

You bring Berger to the bench,

and then when there's a lefty,

even though Osuna's been pretty good

against lefties,

you could have Osuna maybe out there in

the outfield for Evan Carter.

Who knows?

You could go so many different directions.

But I do like what the Rangers are

deciding to do.

I honestly think they did this a little

too late.

They should have done this sooner.

And for whatever reason,

they decided not to.

But they should have done this sooner.

They should have got him reps and had

him be a little bit more versatile around

the field.

Osuna throws left-handed.

The only positions you can play are

pitcher, first base, and outfield.

I mean, at the major league level,

at least.

They should have done this a lot sooner.

I would have had him working on this

in the offseason.

Maybe he did and they just weren't willing

to go to it.

But I honestly would have been working him

out at first base in the offseason.

Like Alejandro,

we got to find ways for you to

be more versatile.

And look,

hopefully he's able to get some reps down

there,

come up and help the big league club.

But it looks like he got a night

off tonight.

But the two games prior,

he played first base.

Here we go.

And I think most of us at the

end of the day attributed the downturn to

the injury,

which was kind of nagging him ever since

he took that spill in the on-deck circle.

I'm going to be very curious.

Does he return to form?

Does he return to that incline,

that upward trajectory that he was on

before he got hurt?

He was looking good.

It felt like he was at least having

taken a positive step forward.

Then he got hurt and it really started

going pretty poorly.

So I'm really curious now that he's

healthy,

what version of Leiter are we going to

see?

I think that's a really big question for

Texas down the stretch here.

And if you can get a solid lighter,

healthy lighter for the next month and a

half, could be a difference maker.

It could be.

coming of Jeff Kent or any other elite

Cody, at the end of the day,

was having a decent night.

Didn't have a hit,

but he had a walk.

He had seen a lot of pitches.

He had reverse splits last year against

righties.

I'd probably leave Cody Freeman in the

game.

There does appear to be a little bit

of an obsession with analytics and

matchups.

Finally,

I thought like the quotes that Skip had

last night,

like basically saying that the series loss

to the angels was unacceptable.

Like that,

that to me is one of the few

times he said something like that.

And it just happened to be, you know,

what four months into the season,

four months into the season.

And this is one of the few times

that skip has really come out after a

bad series loss and really criticize the

team.

I'd like to see more of this.

I would like to see more of that

kind of talk.

This team does need some fire, man.

They do need to get called out.

This isn't good.

It's not great.

I can't get into the dynamics of the

clubhouse.

Nobody's in there, but you know what?

The bottom line is,

what's happening between the white lines?

You're losing games.

And so for me,

I'm not going to sit around and say

that I know exactly what's happening and

I've got all the answers with the culture

in the clubhouse, but you're losing.

You're a losing baseball team right now.

It's okay to say that out loud,

by the way.

It is the reality.

You're a losing baseball team right now.

Doesn't mean that you're going to end the

season that way.

But at the same time,

the Rangers to go over .

to go over five hundred would have to

go twenty two and seventeen the rest of

the way.

If the Rangers want to get to eighty

six wins,

which is kind of we we've talked about

this kind of a bit of a threshold

number.

Eighty six wins.

You would have to go to you would

have to be twenty six and thirteen.

Are the Rangers going to go twenty six

and thirteen over their final thirty nine?

That would just be getting to eighty six

wins.

You would have to go twenty six and

thirteen if you're Texas to get to eighty

six over the next thirty nine.

That doesn't feel like a reality to me.

I think that the twenty two and seventeen

number that I gave you guys,

which would make them eighty two and

eighty, that feels realistic.

Twenty six and thirteen just doesn't feel

like possible.

I don't think we have we seen the

Rangers go on a twenty six and thirteen

run at any point this year.

I would have to look that one up,

but twenty six and thirteen doesn't feel

like we've done that one time.

You had the Blue Jays and the Orioles

win.

They are now a half game behind Texas.

The Guardians are one game behind the

Rangers.

And the Tigers are now in that last

playoff spot, right?

So look, half game out.

That's all you are.

Even after a four-game losing streak,

you're a freaking half game out.

Of a playoff spot.

So, yes,

of course I think they could make the

playoffs.

Like, I mean, just look at the standings,

yeah.

But I think the point that I've been

making over the last forty eight hours is

you can't just bury your head in the

standings.

I'm not comforted by a half game out.

Some people are.

Some people are chilling, man.

It's just a half game.

We're good.

I think the fact that they're a half

game out.

And they've had so many opportunities to

go really take firm control of a playoff

spot and just fall in on their face.

It's no longer comforting to me that

they're just a half game out.

Texas still has some fight.

the burger home run was great,

but they're just not turning fight into

wins.

It's a very familiar formula with this

club.

You know, good fight at the end.

They showed great fight tonight.

And, you know,

you have nothing to show for it.

I'm really still unsure about Kumar

Rocker.

We'll see what happens.

Walking with the trainer after the

clubhouse, maybe we get an update there.

Who knows?

But, you know, five walks.

You're just continually looking for some

of these guys to go on a dominant

run,

and you're playing a really bad opponent

that doesn't have some of their best

offensive players.

They were showing it on the screen today,

like three different offensive players,

Rookers out, Langeleers, Bangleers,

he's out,

and you still can't dominate this lineup.

You're walking them five times,

just like...

Very unsure about where we stand with

Kumar.

There's questions about the mental,

not covering first base.

I think he would have actually benefited

from going to AAA to start this year.

I think that would have been wise.

He doesn't have that many professional

starts.

I think he's a little over fifty

professional starts in his Rangers

organizational career.

This guy doesn't have that many innings

under his belt as a professional and

And so for me,

I probably would have liked to have seen

him go to AAA to start the year

and Latsy be your fifth starter guy.

Now look, the rest is history.

Lats one of the more elite closers in

the game at this point, but nevertheless,

feels like Kumar needs a AAA stint.

The Rangers just aren't healthy enough to

do it at this point.

You've got four or five guys with no

ABs, but nobody super notable.

McKenzie in his last start, you know,

coming into this start, by the way,

with a four forty three ERA last start

out five and a third one earned run

nine strikeouts against the Angels.

Got a no decision ultimately against the

Giants.

Six innings, no earned runs,

four strikeouts and then against Tampa Bay

on the twenty ninth of July.

Seven innings pitch, three earned runs,

nine strikeouts.

So you definitely have a good little run

going for McKenzie Gore.

I'm curious to see what he can come

out and do tomorrow against this A's

lineup that, look,

has some lefties that are susceptible to

the swing and miss against a guy like

Gore.

I feel like you're going to get a

good performance out of McKenzie,

but like we were saying earlier,

I don't trust a ton of guys in

this rotation right now.

I really don't.

Nothing will shock me tomorrow, but...

If McKenzie truly is in a little bit

of a flow state right now,

maybe we'll get another good one from him.
