want to see Cal Q pulled.

I do understand at eighty five pitches,

this guy's been starting for a little bit,

but they've kind of been yanking him

around here and there.

They have been making him more of a

bullpen piece.

over the last week, week and a half.

And so I do think that plays a

factor here.

Had they never started moving Cal Q to

the pen,

I think maybe you do think about extending

him out.

He was in a good rhythm of starts.

I think the fact that he kind of

had to get jolted back into the starting

rotation probably plays into the reason

why he comes out of the game at

eighty five pitches instead of maybe

seeing if you can get some quick outs

there in the top of the sixth inning.

Robbie Alstrom just did not have it

tonight.

Alstrom had been so good since the

all-star break, no earned runs,

but just didn't have it tonight, man.

Came in, gave up a couple of hits,

gave up three earned runs.

Was not Robbie's best performance,

but he's been so good.

Thirteen straight appearances without

allowing a run.

That's impressive.

you hope this is one of those games

where you look back on this extra innings

win and you say that was the moment

things changed.

We've had so many of those types of

moments where you think this is the time

where the Rangers are really going to take

off, get on a win streak,

and really take control of this division.

And then they just fall flat on their

face a game or two later.

It is clockwork with this team.

It's clockwork.

You just, at this point, can't be shocked.

You can't be surprised.

Hopefully the Rangers get a little rally

here going in the top of the ninth,

but they are on their way to fighting

for a series split.

After winning game one,

fighting for a series split, man.

forty stretch isn't getting pinch hit for

lefty on lefty with Cam Cawley on the

bench?

What is Cam Cawley's purpose on this team

if you're not going to sub him in

for Nicky Lopez against a lefty?

What is Cam Colley's purpose on this team?

Why is he even up with the big

league squad if you're going to leave

Nicky Lopez in against a lefty when he's

in a four for forty stretch?

And that makes absolutely no sense to me.

It's an average team.

I know some people are going to hear

average and maybe say, no, they suck.

a check for myself more than even for

Let's just paint this picture.

The Rangers win a game tomorrow.

DeGrom pitches well.

They win tomorrow.

They split.

And then you go up to Sacramento and

you win two out of three or you

sweep the series.

How are we feeling?

I would submit we're feeling pretty good.

Still not loving what happened against the

Angels.

But I would submit if you win tomorrow

and you're able to win two out of

three in Sacramento,

we're all probably feeling all right.

Again, still looking back at this series,

what a missed opportunity.

But I would imagine we'll be okay if

the Rangers win three of the next four.

Now, if you lose tomorrow,

you lose one or two games in Sacramento,

I think different story.

I think we're all going to feel a

bit defeated at the end of the week.

So I'm not going to totally jump off

the cliff.

I'm not going to totally overreact to

tonight.

But I do think this is a disappointing,

very disappointing outcome for a team that

looked primed after a big win Monday night

to take maybe three out of four,

maybe four out of four.

If you are hoping, by the way,

for DeGrom's seven innings tomorrow,

let me go ahead and

I don't think JDG is going seven.

I do not think JDG is going seven

That would be a big shocker to me.

Angels see the ball well against him for

He has had some success against them,

I am not holding my breath on a

eight inning performance from Jacob

DeGrom.

Would love to see it.

Would absolutely love to see it.

But yeah,

I'm going to be good with six innings

and hope there's one or two earned runs.

Sadly, though,

Rangers with how they've been hitting will

probably not have a whole lot of runs

in the run column either.

Half of the lineup, I would agree.

It's...

It's not good.

You needed to do so much more in

the offseason and you didn't.

It bugs me that people really try and

gas up the mediocrity a little bit.

And I'm not talking to any of you

guys.

I'm not hearing a lot of that in

the chat tonight.

But in the offseason,

there was so much gassing up of mediocre

players.

And I love cheering for the Rangers.

I love cheering for a lot of these

individual players.

But I always make the comp like...

Think about the trade deadline.

Think about the early twenty tens,

you know,

when the Rangers acquired like Cliff Lee.

You think anyone was pissed off that Cliff

Lee was on the team?

Like you think anyone on that team was

pissed off that the Rangers front office

went and acquired a good talent?

No.

And so I think fans,

you have to understand,

just because you want to see the roster

improve,

you want to see the Rangers go out

and get better talent,

it's not necessarily an indictment on the

current players.

In some cases, it is.

But the Rangers needed to improve on the

guys that they had on the team already.

They didn't do it in the offseason.

They didn't do it at the deadline.

I told you guys,

the only way to read what happened at

this deadline is a vote of no confidence

in the current roster.

A vote of no confidence.

You know what?

There's a thought of fortune and luck

But there's not a lot of confidence in

what CY did at the deadline,

which is basically acquire Chase Silseth

and Logan Ohapi.

Young is missed,

but Young is not going to save this

team.

Young is missed,

but he's not saving this team.

Young playing tonight does not make or

break this game.

In fact,

you could probably make an argument that

Young over at third base,

Zeke made a couple of really nice plays.

I don't know if Josh makes all the

plays that Zeke made tonight at the hot

corner.

I would not do the CY thing.

Don't take the CY path and start thinking

about the players that are injured.

Does it help?

Yes, it does.

There's no denying that Josh Young is a

valuable bat to have.

Josh Young's not making a difference

tonight.

Josh Young is not making a diff tonight.

I hate to break it to you.

The Rangers are more than a Josh Young

away from being a serious contender.

You know, I'm kind of at the point,

honestly,

where Ohapi should probably be up.

You've got Austin Wins.

I know DJ's coming back.

So I think when DJ comes back,

Austin Wins is probably toast.

Ohapi has to stay down until I think

the twenty second to get that extra year

of control.

So I don't think you're going to see

Ohapi until probably September.

I believe the date is like the twenty

second or the twenty third to get the

extra year of control on Ohapi.

So you're not going to see Ohapi for

another ten days,

another week and a half or so.

Probably not this weekend,

but the next weekend,

maybe he could get the call up then.

But I kind of wonder if they just

wait till the rosters totally expand and

then go from there.

I do think Austin wins clearly is going

to be odd man out.

I don't think they're going to keep

rolling with him.

That's a DFA DJs coming off the sixty

day anyway.

So it just makes sense.

I didn't expect the Angels to get held

to two runs with a Cal Q game.

obviously you guys know I'm a fan,

but I would expect him to get a

little bit hit around, you know,

just a little bit.

Tonight had eight three Rangers win

written all over it.

It really did.

No reason you shouldn't have been able to

hit.

Claussen and his five fifty two ERA was

over seven before he dominated the Rangers

offense.

I don't think you want it to have

Cal Quantrill get close to a hundred

he was in the bullpen up until the

Evaldi injury.

He had been moved when Cody Bradford came

back.

So that makes sense to me.

Seager waking up and having literally

nobody else around him doing anything is

just so on point for this team,

isn't it?

It's so on point.

Seager finally hits the double,

hits the home run.

He had a single.

One, a triple away from the cycle.

why literally exactly why they are a game

because constantly one phase of the game

is going really well.

Kelenic gets DFA'd again and Osuna gets

and bring him back up as an opportunity

skip i think has had some nice moves

here and there i feel like though you

we we had pizza tonight and he ate

his pizza kind of balked a little bit

at like some of the toppings and stuff

like that took him a little bit longer

And he finally got it done.

And like five minutes later, he's like,

I think that Skip is actually making the

wrong move with Jock at this point.

but you are allowing your best hitter to

have very little RBI opportunities.

clearly the best hitter on the team right

and you insist on continuing to hit him

in the leadoff spot.

you've got to get your best hitter,

which is Jock Peterson,

into situations where he's actually going

to be able to impact the game.

Jock Peterson hits behind Nicky Lopez,

Elias Diaz, and Evan Carter.

When is he going to have an RBI

opportunity?

I know we talked about this last night.

Clearly we have a little bit of a

different audience every night,

people coming in, people coming out,

but I do think that the skip Jock

Peterson lead off move was valuable at the

time.

Now I feel like you're going to the

well with it way too much.

You need to adjust.

We can't keep hitting Jock Peterson lead

off.

This is a crazy stat.

Seventeen of Jock's twenty-two home runs

are solo shots.

I mean, look, half, you're like, okay.

Seventeen of twenty-two are solo shots?

It's where he's hitting, man.

It's where he's hitting.

You're, first of all,

leading off the game, bases empty.

You're automatically giving your best

hitter a bases empty situation.

Then, throughout the course of the game,

again, you're hoping that Diaz, Lopez,

or Carter is going to get on base.

I guess to bring it full circle with

the thing that you complimented Skip for,

good job moving Jock Peterson to lead off

and really lighting the fuse with Jock.

But now you're just going to the well

with it over and over,

and it's not working anymore.

And by the way, Jock has never said,

I was really trying to look for quotes

feeling like the leadoff spot is what

He said that he feels really comfortable

You got to ran a shortstop.

I feel like, just weirdly,

you could have traded a number of the

big stars and you really could have still

made a decent little run.

trading Josh Young,

obviously he's hurt right now,

But at the time, trading Young,

I don't think that trading DeGrom,

trading Evo,

I just don't know if all that would

have really taken us out of it that

much.

But I feel like the Rangers could have

made one of those runs where you sell

and then the team just gets hot because

baseball.

Because it is a weird sport and anything

can happen between the white lines.

You should have either gone all in

gone after Rutschman,

gone after Hunter Goodman,

gone after some of the really big names

that teams were taking calls on but were

You wanted to be on either end of

the spectrum but not right in the middle.

that's where the Rangers are.

really worry me in a playoff run,

praying that the Rangers hit their stride

at just the right time.

the Rangers lineup is looking very,

very unscary.

You've just got not a lot of threats

beyond maybe Jock, Seager, maybe Nimmo,

throw him in there.

He can absolutely give this rotation

useful innings when Nathan Evaldi is out.

Cal Quantrill would be my number three

starter.

I'd be starting him in game three.

I don't think there's anyone that I trust

more to just give the team a chance

to win than him right now.

So there's your positive.

I'm just a little bit unsure about the

depth here on this team.

You don't have a lot of good bench

options.

If Jock Peterson is not starting, sure,

it gets a little better.

But there's just not a lot of great

bench options right now on this team.

I know that they put Wyatt Langford in

for Evan Carter in the seventh inning,

but a thought that I had was, man,

who are you going to have come up

to try and tie the game with one

swing of the bat in the ninth inning

if you need it?

You're going to bring in Austin Wins off

and I love Cam Cawley,

You just don't have a lot of depth

on this bench.

You don't have a ton of guys that

you can turn to.

He did not yield a lot of earned

runs,

but had to throw a lot of pitches.

Lack of location.

Did get the win.

Nine strikeouts,

but did not make it past the fifth

inning.

You'd love to see DeGrom get that quality

start.

Go six.

Give us one or two earned at the

most.

It's just going to come down to the

lineup again.

They've got to figure it out.

Got to figure it out.

I don't know what Skip's going to roll

out there in terms of the starters.

I'm curious to see in a game where

you're trying to salvage a split what he's

going to do.

You would have probably loved to have

given some guys the day off tomorrow,

but I don't think you're going to be

able to do it because you do not

want to lose three out of four against

the Angels.

So we shall see how Skip tries to

scrape together a win to get this split.

The best answer I can give is I

think it's maybe a little bit of both.

I think he probably is dealing with

They haven't disclosed it or made it

But I think Wyatt probably needed a bit

of a mental reset day.

He has been in a little bit of

a funk of late.

And so I think it's probably a little

bit of both.
