Hi and welcome to another edition of Right

on Rangers Live, coming at you after a

thrilling 8-6 victory over the Tampa Bay

Rays, the American League's best team.

Rangers trailed 5-1 in this one at

one point, looked all but over, but thanks

to a double burger combo by our first

baseman Jake Burger, and also late game heroics

by Justin Foscue, Ezequiel Duran, and Corey Seager,

the Rangers get a very important split over

the Tampa Bay Rays.

They keep their wild card and division hopes

alive, especially with the Astros losing today.

You have a number of positive things to

look at after a game like this.

Clearly, as you know, we can be nitpicky

on the show, but let's absolutely accentuate the

positive early on in this one.

The Rangers could have easily folded in this

ballgame, could have easily packed it in, and

instead went out, clawed back, won a ballgame,

and they are now in a much better

position than they were after what, about the

second inning?

I think we're all in a much better

headspace after the second inning meltdown or third

inning, whatever it was.

Glad to be talking to all you guys

after a Rangers win.

Obviously, mostly all postgame today.

I was kind of kicking it around, taking

my time, getting out here to the garage

to start up the show, so thanks for

bearing with me, but look, enjoyed the game

just as much as you guys did, and

got a lot of thoughts, got a lot

of thoughts, but we'll start here.

First of all, let's start here.

Jake Burger, been a guy that I think

has polarized Rangers fans over the, what, last

145 games, 144 games.

He's been a polarizing figure, and I think

I've explained pretty clearly why he's so polarizing,

and the Rangers continue to wheel him out

in the same exact role as they always

have.

What you've seen with Jake Burger in 2026

is a clear dichotomy between left-handed and

right-handed pitching.

You've got a guy who looks like an

elite slugger against lefties.

You've got a guy that looks very human

and below average when he faces right-handers.

I think the Rangers are seeing the benefits

of Burger against lefties, especially in games like

today, where he handled lefties extremely well, hit

a couple of different home runs.

Next year in 2027, maybe the conversation getting

started a little too soon, but I would

love to see the Rangers consider a more

strong platoon option for Jake Burger.

We know the role that he is very,

very good in.

We're watching it.

We're watching it play out right now.

I think if Jake Burger is still around

next year, and there's maybe a chance that

he could be traded in the off season,

you never say never, but if Jake Burger

is around next year, you'd love for them

to really double down on the success that

he has against lefties.

It's obvious.

It is obvious.

When this man is raking, it's usually against

a left-hander, and that's exactly what he

did today.

Jake Burger has to be at this level

against lefties.

He does.

The Rangers need him when they've got Joc

Pederson out of the lineup, and I know

Joc has not been good lately, but when

Joc's out of the lineup, you've got kind

of a whole different construction, honestly, of your

one through nine when you have a lefty

starter out there.

Jake Burger has to be a huge part

of that.

He has to be.

Berg today, clearly your offensive player of the

game.

There's no doubt about it.

You look at his numbers, and we're going

to go to the box score here in

just a second to make sure we give

you the full.

He was two for four, three run score,

three RBI, had a walk as well.

Berg was on fire today.

Average now up to about 247.38 OPS.

Not sure if the numbers are updated on

Berg yet, by the way, but let's look

at the splits real quick.

Against lefties this year, Jake Burger is hitting

273 with a 918 OPS.

This dude is an elite lefty hitter.

He's in Foscue territory, and I continue to

eat crow on Justin Foscue.

We're going to get to him in a

little bit, but Jake Burger, 273, 918 OPS

against lefties.

Against righties, 227 with a 675 OPS.

One of my favorite expressions, dude.

It's Jekyll and Hyde when it comes to

Burger lefty righty, and you saw the good

side today against two lefties.

You had Matz, you had Seymour, you had

Burger raking against Southpaws, and I think the

Rangers need to pick up on the trend.

I don't know that they have a great

choice right now with 20 games left, less

than 20 games left in 2026.

There's not really a great left handed platoon

option.

Joc has faded a little bit, and you

don't necessarily want Joc Pederson playing first base.

Not a great fielder.

We've kicked around Alejandro Osuna.

It feels like the club has made their

decision on Osuna, barring any kind of injury.

Osuna looks prime to finish the season in

AAA, and I'm not sure that Osuna is

going to come back and quite give you

the other side of that piece that you're

looking for.

He's got a little bit of a different

game.

I think ideally, if you do platoon Burger,

let's say in 2027, if the Rangers keep

him around, you want to replace him with

a guy that gives you a little bit

more slug.

I think that there is a very, very

good argument for Osuna being in the lineup

somewhere, but in terms of the platoon situation,

it is more ideal if you're thinking about

first base, if you did go this route,

that you have a guy that can give

you something similar to what Burger's game gives

you.

Jake Burger, clear MVP of the game today.

Maybe something like this can help unlock him

against Wrighties.

I'm not going to hold my breath.

You saw kind of the other side of

the coin, even in his at-bat late

against a Wrighty.

Looked really uncomfortable, struck out on a pitch

well outside.

Burger gets thrown that off-speed, off the

plate, low and away, and he just cannot

resist.

That's what Burger looks like a lot against

Wrighties.

The Burger that you saw mash in the

baseball, that is Southpaw mode Burger.

And Southpaw mode Burger is very, very dangerous.

All right, y'all.

We'll get to the pitching side in just

a little bit, but I got to take

some comments from you guys to come so

it's good.

Let's go, Texas Rangers.

Yes, sir.

We got to enjoy this one.

It's going to be a tough roadie ahead

Rangers just not the same playing away from

Globe Life.

We don't want to bring the vibes down

at the beginning of the show.

It's going to be, I think, a tough

road trip.

If they come out of that road trip

on a positive with a winning record, I

really think this is going to show you

what this team's state, what this team's metal

is like going out on the road, a

place you haven't played great in 2026.

Can we see the Rangers really have a

good road trip here?

You know, not just four and three or

whatever, however many games they're playing.

Can we get a few games over 500?

So we got to turn back the clock

to 2023.

I'm not saying you got to go 11

and 0, but the Rangers I think are

really going to prove what they are in

this road trip coming up here.

They're going to prove it.

You have to prove it.

There's no choice, but they're going to have

to solidify themselves on the road.

We're going to have to do it.

No doubt.

Mariners always a bit of a house of

horrors for the Rangers.

That's why I say, I mean, I'm not

taking them lightly.

You know, the, the pink T-Mobile man,

it's, it's always been a house of horrors.

One of the worst hitters park.

In fact, T-Mobile is the worst hitters

park right behind globe life.

It's tough.

I mean, look to, to clarify the comment,

T-Mobile is the worst globe life, slightly

less worse.

It's like 29 and 30 globe life.

And then T-Mobile Rangers have never played

great up in Seattle.

I mean, yeah, they won games.

Yeah.

I don't think anybody is saying that they

have like not won in the last two

or three years.

They've won games there.

It's just not been plentiful.

And so going up to Seattle.

Yeah.

I'll be honest with you guys.

It worries me a little bit.

I just don't know if this team is

going to figure it out away from home.

They are a winning team when they play

at globe life.

For the most part, I know they split

this series, but overall you, you won and

you had a positive record here on this

road or excuse me, on this homestand when

you go and play Seattle and you go

and play Arizona, Arizona, by the way, I

mean, they, they are another team that's right

there in the mix.

You got Arizona wanting to win some games,

Arizona 73 and 71.

They've got an opportunity.

It's not going to be an easy road

trip.

We're going to get more into that.

As we go along in the show, usually

something we do a little bit later on,

but we will continue checking comments.

And of course I got a bunch more

for you guys running out of time.

Winning series is not good enough.

They need a sweep or two comment from

I think that a sweep is going to

be tough.

Not an easy gamut.

There is not an easy road there.

Even with the red socks games at home,

that's going to be tough.

I think that the next week and a

half of baseball is 1000% going to

define this season.

Again, Rangers, if you're just showing in us,

when eight to six trailed at 1.5

to one in this game, it was looking

bleak.

Jake Burger homework twice Foscue tight it with

a two run double Corey Seager gave him

another run with a solo shot oppo taco

in the eight.

It was beautiful on the flip side of

that.

Mackenzie Gore gave them almost nothing today.

Three innings, six, it's five earned three walks.

One strikeout have the guys on RSN giving

them some credit yet.

Cause I mean, I just wouldn't be shocked

at all.

If somehow the boys found a way to

gas up this Mackenzie Gore start.

I don't know how you can.

I'm sure there's somebody out there that's doing

it.

He gave us a chance.

He kept us in the ball game.

He battled, even though he didn't have his

best stuff.

No, just no.

The reason Texas is even, or was even

in a position to win.

Does that the lineup completely changed the game

after he left the game and the bull

pin?

I think you got to give a lot

of love to this pen, man.

The pen came out today.

You had Tyler Alexander giving up a run.

Otherwise the bull pin through a bunch of

zeros, including guys that have been a little

questionable.

Chase Sillseth came in through a clean inning,

one, two, three.

Jacob Latz pitched well.

Jacob Junis finished out the game.

I was a little bit interested in that

decision, but then come to find out, I

guess Jacob Latz left for an injury.

Is that what I'm reading?

That's not good.

That's absolutely not good.

Is there any update on that?

I saw that in the comment section and

I saw that going on a little bit

online as well.

I did not see an indication that there

was some kind of injury, but I just

assumed maybe it was over the fatigue concept.

He had already pitched last night.

Don't know if there's been any report on

I think it may have just been a

You had the tough lefties and then you

gave it over to Jacob Junis to face

some of the righties.

I think that that's got to be the

glass half full.

You don't want to think there's something else

going on.

Mackenzie Gore though.

Let's bring it back to Gore.

I think the biggest thing that always comes

to my mind when it's these kinds of

games from Gore, you always find yourself in

a really negative place.

I don't want to necessarily believe that this

is the worst trade in Rangers history just

because that's so painful to say out loud,

but it does feel like it.

It does feel like one of the worst

trades, if not the worst trade in Rangers

history.

We're in September.

I'm sorry.

We're in September.

This is not scuffling out of the gate.

Dude, we are in the last month of

the regular season and Mackenzie Gore in one

of the biggest games of the year is

totally soiling the bed.

It's just unacceptable.

This is a move that definitely when you

think about it, depending on how those prospects

turn out that are now with Washington.

It's going to take a little while to

totally figure it out, but I like Washington's

position a lot better.

I put out a video on Gore probably

a couple of weeks ago after one of

his bad starts.

It was surprising to me how many people

still came to the defense of Gore.

I understand remaining neutral, just not wanting to

jump into it, but it was a little

alarming.

I had multiple people push back like, he's

been okay.

The prospects, they're not going to be that

good.

It really isn't that bad of a trade.

I promise I'm not just engineering the opposition

here.

I had some real Rangers fans commenting that

the Gore trade really isn't that bad.

Maybe I'll get some commenting that right now.

I don't know, but I don't understand how

you could think that after watching a game

like this, after watching some of Gore's games

over the past month even, has he had

some good ones mixed in there?

Absolutely.

Has he had some really bad ones at

really inopportune times mixed in there?

1000%.

Mackenzie Gore was traded for to be an

ace level pitcher right now.

There was no training wheel period for Mackenzie.

It was, you're going to be a winning

pitcher in what we believe is already a

winning rotation.

You're going to help solidify an elite staff,

the number three starter, Evo, DeGrom, Gore, and

nothing could be further from the truth.

Cal Quantrill has been better than Mackenzie Gore

this year.

The guy you're paying 1.25 million instead

of five decent prospects.

I don't think anybody needs to go over

the top pretending like we traded Sebastian Walcott,

but I also don't think you can pretend

like we gave up nothing for Mackenzie Gore.

I'm not even just talking about the fact

that it was five prospects.

Some of those prospects are having good years

for the Nationals.

Gavin Fien, a baby.

Who knows what that dude's going to become?

You never know.

Yeah, he's a high school player, but you

never know what Gavin Fien is going to

turn into.

Javi Ortiz already in the major leagues.

You have a number of different players.

Fitz-Gerald was raking at the beginning of this

year.

A number of different players that you're going

to have to keep your eye on, but

either way, the thing that I just want

to make so crystal clear, it doesn't matter

really how the prospects work out.

You absolutely could have held onto them and

gotten a better performance from some washed up

veteran that you could have signed.

I think Patrick Corbin could have done this.

Who knows?

I know that the numbers for Corbs aren't

that good this year.

You could have signed Patrick Corbin.

You didn't have to trade for Mackenzie Gore.

You wanted another lefty in the rotation.

Sign Corby.

Bring him back.

Keep the five prospects.

Already though, the deal is bad.

It doesn't matter if Gore is good next

year.

To me, next year is going to be

a weird year with the potential looming lockout

anyways.

I don't even think next year if Gore

comes back, kind of like Joc Pederson, even

if Gore comes back and has a really

good year next year, I don't know if

I'm sitting here saying it's a great trade

unless the Rangers do something really special.

I feel like that is what it would

take.

You would have to win the World Series.

You would have to do something really special

next year for the Mackenzie Gore trade to

be worth it.

I feel like it is going to take

something miraculous for anyone to sit back and

say, yeah, stamp of approval, baby.

Do it again.

It looks pretty bad right now.

Can it get better?

Yes, it can, especially if Gore just randomly

comes on strong at the end of this

year, maybe pitches well in a playoff game.

It's hard for me to stomach thinking about

Mackenzie Gore in October right now.

In fact, I think you probably should stay

away and give the ball to Cal Quantrill.

After that, I really don't know who the

best next option is.

You've got Rocker.

You've got Gore.

You've got Bradford.

I guess I'd probably give the ball to

Bradford.

I'd probably make Cody Bradford my game four

starter and put Mackenzie Gore maybe in the

bullpen.

That's where we're at with the Gore trade.

Anybody else who's telling you something otherwise, I

just question the genuineness.

It feels disingenuous to try and sit here

and say that Gore is still your number

three or your number four.

I would go Cody Bradford over Gore.

I'd go Cal Quantrill in a heartbeat over

Mackenzie Gore.

Now, Eovaldi being out, and by the way,

if you didn't catch the news on Nathan

Eovaldi, they are most likely not going to

be bringing Evo back as a starting pitcher.

Evo is most likely going to be in

a longer relief role, whatever that looks like,

who knows.

In the playoffs, what it probably looks like

is Evo is your starter, gives you three

or four innings, or you do the opener

thing, Evo comes in, gives you three or

four of bulk, and then you have the

bullpen finish out the rest.

But the Rangers announcing today, Eovaldi announcing today,

was Evo who actually spoke that he is

not likely to return in a traditional starter

role.

That was not the news that I wanted

to hear.

I know that the Rangers' playoff hopes, I

mean, look, they're still there.

They're not automatic.

Last night, I believe the Rangers had less

than a 20% chance to make the

playoffs according to fan graphs.

Look, percentages like that, chances to make the

playoffs, take them with a grain of salt.

But I think the point is, it's probably

more likely than not that the Rangers don't

make the playoffs.

I think if they did make the playoffs,

it would definitely be slightly improbable at this

point.

I feel like their opportunity is right there,

but clearly you need help.

You need other teams to lose in front

of you.

You need the Rangers to go on a

consistent run, start stacking wins, and putting themselves

ahead of teams like the Guardians, the Astros.

It's easier said than done.

At this point, I do think, though, they

make the playoffs.

It's in improbable territory.

It's an impressive accomplishment because you don't have

that many games left.

The Rangers have been doing the back and

forth seesaw thing all season long.

It's not impossible, but improbable, I do think

that's fair to say at this point.

Fair to say.

Appreciate all you guys hanging out, going back

to Gore, bringing that full circle.

He might have to pitch a game for

because of the injuries.

I don't know if the Rangers really have

any other choice.

Lighter is a no.

Evo is not going to be a starter

anymore.

You might have to go to Gore.

Maybe you do like a Gore Evo game.

I don't know.

But right now, Gore just feels radioactive.

You just don't know what you're getting at

any given point.

You have no clue.

And that is scary when you're thinking about

a team that's trying to make October, but

also trying to win in October.

they have time to build Evo up as

a starter.

I think they probably do.

It felt like to me, it was more

about what he's able to tolerate.

I just don't think the arm right now

can tolerate five or six innings.

My read on the Evo situation was totally

that he's able to hit a certain threshold,

and then it just starts bothering him.

I mean, we've all been there.

If you played the game, you understand.

I mean, there were days where it's like,

I know I can probably throw maybe 30

pitches, and then the arm's going to start

giving me trouble.

I pitched for a little bit when I

played, was more of a position player than

anything, especially when I got to college, but

I definitely knew, hey, I'm going to be

good.

I can throw pretty well, but then when

I get to a certain point, it's going

to start flaring up.

It's going to start barking a little bit.

I think that's where Evo's at.

I think he has, with the staff, figured

out that threshold where he just starts feeling

it, maybe starts feeling a little fatigue, a

little pain, and you know that you've got

to manage that.

I think that it's nice that the Rangers

are going to at least have Eovaldi,

but it's really disappointing because they don't have

a lot of good options in starting pitcher

right now.

It's basically DeGrom, Cal Q, and Cody Bradford

as the three guys you actually feel good

about.

DeGrom, Cal Q, Cody Bradford.

You don't feel great about Rocker.

You don't feel good about Gore.

It's DeGrom, Q, and Bradford.

That's probably what you're going to roll out,

game one, two, and three, and then I

think you're going to have to stomach maybe

a Gore-Evo tandem start, and not stomaching

the Evo part, but definitely stomaching the Gore

part.

Not a great situation, and this is why

I think even if the Rangers can make

it into the dance, it's going to be

tough.

It is going to be tough.

I'll do anything to see this team make

it back to October.

Trust me.

I'm not one of those, and you guys

know this, I'm not one of those fans

that's hoping that they don't make it so

we can just do a rebuild.

You're never going to hear me tweet that.

You're never going to see me tweet that.

I'm never going to say that on the

show.

I would much rather see this team play

in a playoff game than any other alternative.

Nothing is guaranteed in this sport, man.

Nothing.

So next year, the rebuild, whatever.

I mean, who knows if the rebuild is

going to go well.

If I can taste this team in October,

I want to taste it.

I do not want to lose ball games

here to jumpstart a rebuild that may never

go well or may never work out.

It's just not going to happen for me.

I think the game to seize was last

night.

You had the Elias DS home run.

You had a number of things just not

going the raised way.

Or am I getting that cross?

Maybe I'm getting my wires crossed a little

bit here.

Like the Elias DS home run game, I

felt like was the game where you really

could have seized it.

You had an opportunity yesterday in extra innings.

Like you had pretty much an opportunity to

win every game you did.

So I think three out of four would

have been my line.

And it was my line coming into the

series.

You get two out of four.

It doesn't do a whole lot for you,

but at least keeps you from totally going

under the water.

You're treading water right now.

Rebuild before a lockout is tough, J-Rock

says.

Also, I think rebuild is a strong word

for what this team needs.

I've said soft reset, J-Rock.

I don't know if you agree with that

or not, my guy.

I think soft reset is what I've said

consistently throughout the year.

You've got a decent core.

Like you've got Corey Seager coming back.

And I know that Seager is a little

bit polarizing in Ranger land right now, but

you've got Seager coming back.

You've got Nimmo.

Wyatt Langford's been bad over the last couple

of months, but you've got Wyatt.

You definitely have the prospect of Walcott coming

up.

And I do think Walcott, unless he just

totally falls off a cliff over the next

month, I do think he should be given

a strong opportunity to make the major league

roster out of spring training.

If he continues to do what he's doing

right now, Walcott should be your starting third

next year.

What do you do with Jung?

Figure it out.

I don't know what to tell you.

I mean, if Josh Jung is holding you

back from Walcott making his debut, doing some

of the things he's doing in AA, you

know, you're thinking about it wrong.

You really are.

I mean, Josh Jung, if they decide to

keep him around for next year, you can

DH him.

Maybe you can have him switch positions.

You can get creative.

I think Walcott's got to be up with

the major league club.

If he keeps doing this and I know

some people will, he hasn't played even AAA

yet.

It doesn't matter.

You can make the jump from AA to

AAA.

I talked about this on the show a

few nights ago, the stuff that you see

down in AA is unpolished, but it's, it's

major league stuff that you're seeing at the

AA level.

It's unpolished.

Uh, it's not like as clean as what

some people, or as how some people think

about it in their mind, you see major

league stuff at the AA level.

It's just not polished.

You've got a lot of guys like we

have walking people every inning, you know, hello,

Gavin Collyer, Emiliano Teodo.

I mean, Collyer has been a little bit

better.

Teodo walks a guy like every inning.

He's got major league stuff.

Uh, don't get it twisted.

Walcott is facing guys with major league stuff.

I don't think at all, the AA lack

of AAA time is really as big of

a deal as some people make it out

to be.

Now, can it be helpful in the development

process?

Absolutely.

I don't think I'm saying, and I hope

you're not getting it twisted.

Like AAA doesn't matter.

It can matter, but it also doesn't always

matter.

You have guys make the jump from AA

to the bigs.

It's not like every day, but I think

with a top prospect like Walcott, it's not

a foregone conclusion that the dude has to

go to AAA in order to unlock the

next stage of development.

I think Walcott should be given every opportunity

to win third base next year.

Doesn't mean that you have to get rid

of Josh Jung.

Although I think that Josh Jung may be

a trade candidate next year.

Just looking at the fit, looking at a

bit of the one dimensional nature of Josh

Jung, meaning he really can only swing the

bat.

He's not a great third baseman at this

point in his career.

Last year, the year before we can't live

in the past, we got to operate with

the here and now.

I don't know how the Rangers make a

conscious decision.

We're going to run it back with Josh

Jung out in the field at third base.

I think you can DH him, but then

what do you do with Foscue?

Does Foscue become your everyday second baseman?

What do you do with Duran?

I put out a tweet and I just

want to read it to you guys just

so I don't butcher it, but I put

out a tweet for what I would do

next year considering everything that's transpired.

I do think in a perfect world, Zeke

is your starting shortstop.

If Corey Seeger would be more willing or

more of a team player in moving positions,

that would be nice.

I'm not sure where you'd play Seeger.

Maybe you'd put him at first base.

Maybe Seegs could be the right handed starter

DH.

There's a lot of options, but Zeke is

a better shortstop than Corey.

I know Corey made some nice plays over

the last several games.

Zeke's a better shortstop than Corey Seeger right

now.

I don't think it's really particularly close, and

that's saying something.

That's saying more about Zeke than about Corey.

Zeke is just that good.

Corey Seeger was a gold glove finalist last

year.

He didn't fall off a cliff defensively, but

Zeke is your better shortstop.

I don't think they're going to move Corey

off a shortstop though, and because of that,

I'm not operating with that in mind as

I read you what I planned out next

year for the team.

Rangers need to have Walcott at third base

next year, in my opinion.

Unless he, like I said, falls off a

cliff, looks terrible in spring training, you should

let Sebastian Walcott be your starting third baseman

in 2027.

That, to me, would be a part of

the soft reset that we're talking about.

I mean, the dude is mashing.

Zach, 452 foot bomb.

That was a TikTok comment.

I saw that.

I mean, this guy is mashing right now.

It definitely is going to be something that

needs to be tested in the spring.

Spring training can't tell you everything either though.

Look at Cal Quantrill.

He was terrible in the spring.

Now he's killing it.

You're never going to know 100%, but I

do think the team should give Sebastian Walcott

an opportunity to become the starting third baseman.

And look, most of you, I know I've

already talked through the JJ stuff.

Could you hit JJ as DH?

Could you maybe move him to another position?

Sure, but a trade, I think, might be

likely.

I'd probably roll with Zeke Duran in center

field.

I know maybe that's a waste of his

arm.

I mean, look, I like having his arm

out there in the outfield.

Actually, we don't have a lot of good

arms out there.

Wyatt Langford doesn't have a good arm.

Evan Carter really doesn't have a good arm.

And Brandon Nimmo doesn't have a good arm

either.

I would make Carter more of my defensive

specialist, like my late game substitution guy.

I just don't think Evan Carter has earned

another year of being a starter unless he

goes on a 2023 run in September and

into October.

I just don't think Evan Carter has earned

another year of runway as a starting player,

even as a platoon player.

I just don't see it, y'all.

And so I am going to go with

Zeke in center field if it's me.

And look, can he play third base?

Can he play shortstop for you if needed?

Sure, but I want to open up 2027

with Zeke Duran as my everyday center fielder.

Give me some speed out there in the

outfield.

He appears to have a very good read

on the baseball off the bat out there.

We've seen Zeke Duran make a number of

good catches.

We've seen the cannon of an arm.

He's athletic enough to play the position.

You're not worried about Zeke getting hurt.

He appears to be a bit of an

iron man in that regard.

That's kind of the big debate, right?

Well, we don't want Wyatt to play center

field.

He gets hurt.

Evan Carter, the back issues, you know, he's

kind of a guy that's a little fragile

too, although he's held up pretty well this

season.

There's been a couple of little things here

and there, right?

I think Zeke Duran's center field makes a

lot of sense.

You put Evan Carter more in a bench

type role.

Evan Carter would be, I think, a nice

guy to have off the bench.

You need bench players like that.

I don't think you have to trade, Evan.

If you could get some kind of really

good deal for Evan Carter where you're not

getting raked over the coals.

Yeah, I mean, of course you consider a

lot of different things, but I don't think

you necessarily have to trade Evan Carter.

I think you could easily make him a

guy you bring up off the bench to

give you a burst of speed on the

base pass.

You need a first to home on a

ball in the gap in the eighth or

ninth inning.

You need a stolen base down one in

extras or in the ninth frame.

Sure.

Put him in.

And then of course, you know, you're going

to get pretty good defense out of him

as well.

Like he didn't have a great day defensively

today, had kind of a boneheaded mistake, mental

error, throwing home, trying to get Chandler Simpson

out at the plate, allowed the raise to

put the tying run in scoring position.

That wasn't great.

But Evan Carter, I think does have a

lot of value with the glove.

And so I don't, I don't think you

get rid of him necessarily, but I just

don't think Evan Carter has earned another year

of being even a majority starter.

I know he's not an everyday player, but

even as a guy that plays every day

against righties, I don't think he's earned that.

I just don't think he has.

And so for me, I would like to

see Zeke be everyday center fielder.

So just to recap, Walcott third base, Corey

shortstop, second base up for grabs.

Do you put Foscue there?

I don't know if Josh Jung plays as

like a, a guy you want to move

over to second.

I'm not sure.

He's just not, there's not enough range and

up the middle guy.

You really want to have better range.

That's why I don't really love Justin Foscue

at second base.

And I think what you're seeing right now

with Zeke Duran playing some second, you're seeing

how valuable it is to have a guy

with range.

I mean, even Marcus Semien, I loved watching

Simi play second base.

I know he didn't have a good year

in 24 or 25 with the bat, but

Simi played a beautiful second base.

And a big part of why he was

successful is Marcus Semien had a lot of

range.

And so when you have a guy like

Josh Jung, some people have said, Josh Jung

play second base.

If you don't have range up the middle,

that is tough, man.

You have a lot of ground balls finding

their way through.

So I probably wouldn't be moving Josh Jung

to second.

I think JJ is a corner guy or

a DH.

Like you're either playing him at first or

you're stomaching him at third.

Duran at second feels like a little bit

of a waste of his arm.

And I think that there are other guys

in the organization they could probably play at

second.

I'd rather see Cam Cauley at second base,

honestly.

I'd like to see Cam Cauley really get

an extended audition.

It's fun watching him come up and do

the Speedy Gonzalez thing late in ballgames.

I'd really love for Cam Cauley to be

a potential second base starter next year in

2027.

That to me would be ideal if Cam

Cauley can really pop for you.

And I think Cody Freeman could be in

the mix of that as well.

I know Cody's had a little bit of

a rough week out in the field.

He's had some plays at third base, I'm

sure he wants back.

But Cody Freeman and Cam Cauley ought to

duke it out for second base.

That is the competition right there.

I think Cody might have been able to

win the second base job had he stayed

healthy.

I really feel like it would be a

super ideal scenario to have Cam Cauley at

second, maybe Cody Freeman at second, Zeke in

center, Walcott third, Seager short, JJDH in, maybe

playing some first.

But I think the Rangers are going to

have to make a tough trade or two

in the offseason.

I think they've got too many of the

same types of players, right?

They have too many, as I like to

say, one-trick ponies.

You've got to eliminate some of the one

-trick ponies.

And that is probably going to happen via

the trade, if I had to guess.

Zeke is under contract for a while, not

sure what's good.

Zeke's under contract for a couple more seasons,

I believe.

So no worries about Zeke there.

Good to see you, my guy.

Burger is another guy who's under contract.

So, I mean, Burger is going to be

in the mix too.

But Burger could be a guy that may

be falling under that umbrella.

He might be a tough trade.

You love Burger, you love what he does

in the community, but that could be a

tough trade discussion.

I think the Rangers have to eliminate some

of these guys that are not true everyday

players.

I think you've got way too much depth

and you really don't have enough true starters.

You've got guys that can only hit, can

only play good defense, can only hit against

lefties, can only hit against righties.

You've got to get more players that are

just everyday.

Zach, I'm with you on this.

Just put Zeke in the field.

He'll be able to cover everything.

Only put him out there.

I love that.

Let Zeke play the whole left side of

the infield.

He'll probably be fine.

That's how good this man is.

He's trying to win a platinum glove.

What a huge accomplishment that would be from

Zeke Duran.

The Rangers legitimately have two comeback player of

the year candidates.

I know comeback player usually gets given to

a player that dealt with an injury, but

I actually looked up comeback player of the

year and it's not just about injuries.

Comeback player of the year is for a

guy that definitely had maybe a down year

in the year before and then came back

on really, really strong the next year.

It's not just about player with injury.

I think the Rangers have two really strong

candidates.

You've got, first of all, Zeke Duran, who

didn't really have a great 2025.

You've got Cal Quantrill, same thing, didn't really

have a great 2025.

Then you also have other guys around the

league that have dealt with injury that are

having good seasons too, but I think that

you have to put these guys in the

running.

You really do.

The solution, if he doesn't win the platinum,

if he doesn't win the gold glove, which

he should, comeback player of the year, I

think could be a potential.

Here's the definition.

The comeback player of the year awards are

presented annually to one player in each league

who has reemerged on the field during the

season.

Reemerged.

The reemergence of Zeke Duran, the reemergence of

Cal Quantrill, clearly an injury guy is going

to get this award quite a bit, but

man, I think comeback player of the year,

you could definitely throw Quantrill and Zeke Duran

in the mix.

We keep rolling.

Jay Rock says, with Jung, it is an

injury issue.

He can't stay on the field.

Another reason I don't want to throw him

back at the hot corner.

Young, bad luck or not bad luck.

I just feel like at this point, you

definitely have the bat working.

Don't really want to put him out in

the field for 162 at a tough position.

I like the way you're thinking, man.

I think in an ideal world, Wyatt Langford

would play center field, but Langford, the ailments,

he's hurt every year.

I'm not in the camp, by the way,

and you guys know this.

I am not in the camp at all.

Let's baby these players, but I just think

Wyatt Langford has shown you he's not able

to stay healthy consistently, so I would hesitate

a little bit to put Wyatt out in

center field for that reason and to really

build a season around that.

Now, does that mean you can't put Wyatt

Langford out in center field at all?

I don't think so.

I could, but would you want to build

your entire offseason on Wyatt Langford giving you

140 games out in center?

Probably not, and so that would be my

only pushback.

Corey at third base could be interesting.

I think that might be a natural move,

but I think at the same time, moving

him over to first base, being a big,

tall player.

I mean, Corey Seager is a big guy.

He's a big target.

He would probably be a pretty solid first

baseman.

It's not an easy position.

I know a lot of people sometimes think

it.

Jacob, not saying that you believe that, but

I think Corey to first base makes the

most sense in my mind, and then that

allows Walcott to either play short or to

play third.

I would probably roll with Zeke Duran in

center field right now, and the reason is

I just don't know if you can do

another season of sub 200 from Carter.

It's almost addition by subtraction.

That was the buzzword or the buzzphrase last

offseason.

It's almost a little bit of addition by

subtraction.

You remove Carter from the starting lineup.

You put Zeke in place, and then you

have Walcott come up and play the infield

too.

That's an instant lineup upgrade.

That's the only thing with me with Wyatt.

If Wyatt was a bit of an iron

man, I think you play Wyatt Langford in

center field all day long.

Now, Walcott in the outfield wouldn't be the

worst thing.

Right field, Walcott has a cannon.

I mean, he has a cannon.

I know that we haven't been able to

see it a lot.

We've just been watching Walcott drop bombs, and

they are beautiful to watch, by the way.

Go watch you some Sebastian Walcott highlight reels,

man, but I do think Walcott, he has

not been able to really show off that

arm yet.

He's got a cannon.

You don't want to stick Walcott like it's

second base or someplace where he's not really

going to be able to use that to

his advantage.

In the outfield, like right field, I could

see it, but he hasn't played a lot

of outfield.

I think with him being the cornerstone, a

franchise cornerstone piece, you've got to allow him

to play the left side of the infield.

Maybe it's not going to be shortstop.

Maybe you're going to put him at third

base.

Maybe you are going to force Corey Seager

to move.

Maybe that's one of the tough discussions that's

going to have to happen in the offseason.

Corey, we love you, but we need you

to move positions.

We want Sebastian Walcott to come up, and

we want him to have an opportunity.

That's going to be the tough thing is

we just are going to have to think

outside of the box here and think a

little bit more aggressively.

I think the best way to put it,

reading a Jamie Newberg article, a lot of

you guys I know know Newberg, follow him

on socials.

I do, and I'm a big-time supporter.

I've loved Jamie's stuff for years.

Jamie did a Walcott article, and the Walcott

article basically posed a question.

It's like, who does he replace?

Who does he take at-bats from?

This has been a point of contention, I

feel like, over the last two or three

seasons.

I've made the point multiple times.

We have so many guys that are underperforming,

but they have so much potential.

They have so much potential.

At some point, you have to make tough

decisions.

Do you have the potential to be good?

Yes, but have you shown that you can

be good over a consistent period of time?

No.

And so some of these guys that are

just kind of mediocre and have proven themselves

to be that over the course of their

playing career get to continue on the runway

because of the potential, because of the ceiling.

And so you kind of get stymied into,

I don't know if I want to move

on from that guy starting.

I don't know if I want to move

on from Jake Burger.

He could be a 40 home run guy

and he's such a good dude.

I don't know if I want to get

rid of him.

The reality is you could improve upon almost

every position player.

It's probably what Zeke Duran, and that's probably

it.

It's like, you probably feel like you could

improve at almost every position.

Like Corey Seager is Corey Seager, so maybe

you mark him off the list.

Although I know a lot of Rangers fans

want to see more out of Corey Seager.

There's so many players one through nine that

the Rangers could actually upgrade on, but you

just have to be willing to make a

tough decision.

And so I do think the Rangers are

going to have some of those next year

for sure.

there's two options.

Either he's going to get traded or they're

going to platoon him.

I don't think you can enter the season

next year with Burger as your everyday first

Could you have Burger mostly hitting against lefties?

Yeah, I think that could work.

Burger could kind of be your power bat

off the bench or be your starter against

lefties.

I think that could work.

I don't really want to see Jake Burger

everyday first baseman next year.

That would be disappointing if that's what the

club decided.

I think he has proven Burger can be

elite against southpaws, but he is not a

guy that can really handle right-handed pitching

very well.

He's at 675 for the OPS against righties

this year.

It's looked ugly at times.

Burger, to me, is a guy that you

definitely would love to see succeed, but hasn't

proven it on the field the next two

years.

I kind of feel the same way about

Evan Carter.

I already mentioned with Carter, I don't think

he has proven it enough to get another

long runway in center field next year, even

in a platoon role.

Jake Burger, I know the RBI and the

home run is going to stick out, but

Burger, if you break it down, I just

think he is going to be in a

spot where you are going to see the

struggles continue against righties and against lefties.

I think you'll continue to see him do

well.

We'll see what happens.

Yeah, the AL West has been an adventure

for Texas.

It really has been.

It's been an adventure.

They have not particularly fared well against any

AL West team.

I know maybe the Mariners they have a

pretty good record against, but it feels like

any AL West team has not been a

fortuitous matchup for Texas.

Seattle has never really been a great place.

It's never been a very friendly place for

the Rangers to play, at least in all

my years watching them.

But I think at this point, you're going

to have to figure it out.

You are going to have to figure it

out in Seattle and on the road in

Arizona too.

A place the Rangers haven't been very comfortable,

away from Globe Life Field.

Teams a winner when they play in Arlington.

Numbers don't lie.

The record doesn't lie.

They are a winning baseball team when they

play in Arlington, but they get away from

the friendly confines of Globe Life Field, the

second worst hitter's park in Major League Baseball.

Now they go to the worst hitter's park

in Major League Baseball.

On the road, it's got to travel.

It has to travel.

Burger, look, I would just push back against

lefties.

I feel like Burger has done a majority

of the damage.

Let's look at it.

I've got the splits pulled up right here.

Let's look at the RBI and the home

run and really break it down, man.

Lefties, he has, let's see, 11 homers, 31

RBI.

He's got about 200, by the way, just

so we're clear.

Burger has about 240 less plate appearances, less

ABs against lefties than he does against righties.

In 240 less plate appearances or less ABs,

he only has three fewer home runs.

He's got 11 home runs against lefties.

He's got 14 home runs against righties.

But again, contextualize it.

He's probably got over 250 plate appearances more

against righties.

So has he still done damage against righties?

Yes.

I'll be it.

I would love to see how it plays

out.

He's got 134 games that he's played against

a righty and he's got 14 homers and

51 RBI.

I just feel like the argument still clears.

You have Burger way more productive against lefties

when you just put his numbers against righties

in a vacuum.

I think you could improve upon it.

I'm not saying that you got to get

rid of him, but I would like to

see the Rangers go to more of a

platoon option.

They just don't have one right now though.

I mean, Chris, that was kind of my

thing earlier.

I don't know when you came in, but

I would agree like right now they really

don't have anybody else that you would feel

great putting in there for Burger against righties.

So you got to play him every day.

I do think it would be nice.

I mean, can you potentially get a lefty

first base option?

Maybe a lefty first base outfield option that

has a little pop like Burger that you

can spell Burger with every once in a

while.

Maybe you still let Burger go against some

of the easier righties, but you know, when

Burger's going up against some of the best

right handers in baseball, maybe that's a day

where you give it to the lefty platoon

option.

That's what I'd like to see.

I'm not saying at all, don't want you

to get the impression like get rid of

Jake.

I just think employ him in the places

where he's going to have the most success

and maybe give him a breather against some

of the tough righties that he's really struggled

with this year.

Next year would have to be totally a

different discussion, right?

Because who knows who they're actually going to

go and get?

Are they going to go and get somebody

else that could maybe play first base and

could maybe platoon with him against a righty?

You just don't know.

You have no clue.

I mean, look, the strike does seem inevitable.

Most important question here, are the Rangers taking

two out of three against the Mariners?

We're going to get into the preview of

this in just a second.

I don't think there's a realistic chance for

a sweep, but anything can happen in baseball.

That's the beautiful thing.

I do think the Rangers can take two

out of three.

I feel that way almost every series.

I honestly do.

I mean, I feel that way almost every

series.

But before I get into the Mariner series,

let's put a bow on this one.

Burger, the rescue operation today, right?

Two homers, three RBI.

Second one was a 428-foot bomb and

immediately changed the temp of the game, right?

It was 5-1.

Burger makes it 5-3, and then you

get Justin Foscue coming through with the clutch,

double down the line.

A great A-B from him.

He was down to two strikes early, and

Foscue, he continues to make me eat a

massive plate of crow, as I like to

say.

He has shown that his continued value against

lefties is ever-present.

Over the Rangers' recent 10-day window, Foscue

owns the club's best batting average at 389,

and today he produced the swing that completely

erased Tampa's lead.

At some point, I do think I'm going

to have to reconsider my position.

Nice production from Foscue isn't quite cutting it,

I guess.

The best batting average over the last 10

days, yeah, success is fleeting in this sport,

but you've got to admit, he's earning more

and more September A-Bs and clutch A

-Bs as well, and that's what he showed

you today.

Definitely love what I'm seeing from Justin.

I've been a doubter, but he keeps proving

me wrong, and as I like to say,

whenever a player goes against one of my

takes, if it means the Rangers are winning

a ball game, I am happy to see

it every single time.

Mackenzie Gore, we already talked about, three innings,

five earned runs, three walks, one strikeout.

I feel like he's been much better recently,

but there's really no dressing this up.

This is the exact volatility that makes Mackenzie

Gore really difficult to trust, and in these

late months, September, October, I just feel like

you cannot have volatility.

You can have a lot of things.

You can give up two or three runs,

but you just cannot have volatility.

Offense rescues this one, and good thing, this

would not have been a good day, dropping

three of four to the Rays after winning

game one.

You just can't build a September pitching plan

around needing the offense to rescue Mackenzie Gore,

who you acquired in the offseason to be

your third ace, to be the missing piece

of a winning rotation.

It's just not going to work.

Rangers fans have a right to be disappointed

in what they have gotten from Mackenzie Gore

this year.

This was supposed to be plug and play,

and it has been anything but plug and

play for Mackenzie Gore and the Rangers in

2026.

Bullpen, we gave them some love earlier in

the show.

I think you got to give the MVP

on the pitching side to just the pen

in general.

They definitely kept the Rangers in this game

as well.

You have the offense with the comeback, but

realize the bullpen gave up one earned run

after Mackenzie Gore exits in the third or

after the third.

Williams gave you two scoreless.

Silseth, finally a clean inning without traffic.

He gave you a scoreless frame.

Alexander only allowed one run.

He's been really good of late.

Latz gave you scoreless, and Jacob Junis slams

the door shut in the ninth.

Offensive comeback's worthless if you don't have the

next four relievers immediately shutting things down, and

that's pretty much what happened.

Texas gave itself just enough pitching runway for

the lineup's work to matter.

And then let's go to Corey Seager.

You had already watched Tampa trim the lead

seven to five, then it was seven to

six, and then you have Seager's bomb giving

you just a little bit more in breathing

room.

Corey Seager taking out just a little bit

of extra insurance for the Rangers.

That made it a very different ninth inning.

Maybe you go to Latz again if it's

a one run game.

Maybe that Corey Seager home run is what

made Skip Schumacher feel a little bit better

about going to Jacob Junis.

That, to me, 100% could be an

interesting question.

I don't know if they asked Skip about

it, but it might have been that Corey

Seager home run that makes you feel better

about going to Jacob Junis instead of doing

a second frame of Jacob Latz there.

Or maybe it was the plan all along.

Didn't catch the postgame interview with Skip, so

we'll have to go back and see if

there was any clarity, if any light shed

on that situation.

Definitely, the win today changes the feel of

the homestand.

Texas lost Friday 7-6, they lost Saturday

6-3 in 10 innings, heartbreaking fashion, after

the opening series shutout from Cal Q.

But an 8-6 win today means you

split with Tampa, you leave the seven game

homestand with a winning record, four and three,

you would have loved to do five and

two.

Considering they were staring down a 5-1

deficit this afternoon, this is a materially different

flight to Seattle.

Had you lost this game, you're going to

Seattle having dropped three in a row to

the Rays after winning that game one Thursday

night.

Much different plane ride up to the Pacific

Northwest.

All right, let's go ahead and let's do

a little preview of the series in Seattle.

First of all, three in Seattle, Monday off,

and then you got Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at

T-Mobile Park, Tuesday's a night game, Wednesday,

Thursday are both day games.

I believe they start at 3-10, not

technically day, I mean, I don't know, maybe

late afternoon, mid-afternoon game.

And so look, you're sitting about, what, two

games now behind Houston?

Is that what it is?

Two games behind Houston.

You've got the Mariners, six or seven games

out of the West, six out of the

wildcard, not totally dead, but they still have

an opportunity.

The Mariners, by the way, lost the first

three games of a home series to the

A's, and that place was booing pretty loudly

Saturday night.

I don't know if you saw any highlights,

they were not happy, man.

The Mariners drop in three of their first

four games against the A's.

The Mariners did win today, but they had

a very ugly series against the Athletics.

And so maybe they'll take a little bit

of the positive momentum from today's win, like

salvaging win into the Tuesday night game against

the Rangers, but the A's have had a

really good time against the Rangers and Mariners

this year, apparently.

Like Seattle is going to be an interesting

opponent because their season's basically hanging by a

thread.

You know, they entered Sunday, 10 games under

500.

Now they sit after the win today.

Oh, excuse me.

They are now 10 games under 500.

They are two and eight over their last

10.

They were on a three game losing streak.

It definitely is going to be an interesting

opponent.

And what kind of opponent do we really

get?

Struggling?

Yes.

But harmless?

Absolutely not.

Seattle went into Boston earlier this week.

They took two out of three.

They had an 8-3 win where they

racked up 12 different hits.

This is still a roster in the Mariners

capable of making life miserable when their offense

does wake up.

And you know what?

Sometimes that seems to happen against the Rangers.

Just being real.

The part I'm really watching for Texas is

the road piece, right?

The Rangers coming into today, they're 31 and

41 away from Globe Life, 10 games under

500.

So if this September push is going to

have some life, if you still believe you

can't keep donating road series, Seattle's behind us.

They're wobbling a little bit.

This is exactly the kind of team that

Texas has to beat rather than letting it

become somebody else's get right series.

Get right.

That's how it goes a lot for pitchers

against the Rangers this year.

You just hope that Texas does not become

the get right opponent for Seattle.

I want to see though, if this offense

that we saw today is going to do

some traveling.

Texas finishes to come back today.

Burger Homer's twice.

Foscue's been on fire.

Duran's been doing just about everything.

Seager's showing in the party.

It's a really different offensive feel than what

you've seen in the past with this team.

You look at another quiet loss going up

to the Pacific Northwest.

Like I said, would have been a much

different flight, but now you're just wondering, is

this offense going to be able to carry

into a park where runs are hard to

manufacture?

They're hard to come by up there against

Seattle is the worst hitters park, according to

stack cast in the major leagues.

Look the Tuesday pitching matchup.

Don't know if it has been released yet.

Looks like both teams are still to be

determined with the off day.

I'll go to ESPN and I'll see if

I can get a pitching matchup.

Sometimes ESPN is a little bit more liberal,

a little more free with posting the pitching

matchup MLB, sometimes a little bit more conservative

in that regard, but Tuesday on ESPN, it

looks like the matchup is going to be

Bradford versus Miller.

That's at least what ESPN is reporting.

Not necessarily what you're going to see for

sure.

Bradford does make the most sense.

Don't know what makes the most sense for

Seattle, but ESPN has the probable starters as

Cody Bradford and Miller for the Mariners.

We'll see what happens.

And look, uh, Seattle with that pitching capable

of shutting down an offense and at home,

maybe they find a way to get going

against us.

I am definitely not taking this series for

granted.

I'll put it to you that way.

We know it's game by game with these

Texas Rangers.

And today we enjoy a win.

We enjoy a dub.

It's been an interesting series, but the Rangers

manage a split.

They get an off day tomorrow, get a

chance to maybe give some guys that are

ailing a little time to rest up and

heal.

You got to go play three in Seattle.

You got to play three in Arizona.

And then you come back home for the

Red Sox series.

Rangers are going to have to do something

special away from home.

If they would like to keep playing baseball

into October.

batting practice thing.

And Mitch was just dropping bombs into the

water out there.

If you can picture the fountains at Kansas

City, dude was just dropping bombs.

We actually happened to get one of the

Mitch Moreland home runs in batting practice.

It was a lot of fun.

My brother was hyped.

My dad was actually the one who got

it.

I think I was out getting a cold

refreshment and a hot dog and they just

happened to be right there.

That was a really fun story, man.

Really, really fun.
