Rangers have just refused to go quietly tonight

against the best team in the American League.

By the third pitch, I'm gone.

I am trying to swipe that bag.

I want RBI opportunity times two with Berger

and then with Carter.

If he gets thrown out, he gets thrown

You still have that ability with Berger one

supposed to be used.

I love that they utilize Cam Cawley as

that late inning guy that can go first

to home.

That's exactly what happened.

It felt like in the past with Cam,

maybe I'm just going eye test here, but

it felt like in the past with Cam,

you've seen them burn him in the sixth

inning, the seventh inning, kind of as a

platoon bat.

The reality is, man, you've got to get

him late in ballgames when you need a

stolen bag, when you need that first to

home situation, that first to home scenario.

They do sub him out.

Elias Diaz is in the game for Cam

Cawley, so Cam is done.

That was a great move by Skip Schumacher.

Got to show him some love.

We're hard on Skip when he doesn't get

it right.

He was pushing some good buttons there in

the eighth inning.

A little bump play.

Cody Freeman going to field it and going

to toss it down to first base, down

to Zeke Duran.

Mateo kind of playing that game.

You throw it.

Come on, man.

Trying to bait a throw a little bit

Really interesting, the teams that are on the

road that decide to do the bunt right

away.

This strategy is a little unprecedented.

I know we've had a few years of

the ghost runner, of the base runner rule.

It's a little unprecedented in that you don't

have a long history of what strategies have

really paid off.

Man, I don't know how I feel about

road team bunt there and sacrificing out immediately.

Feels like road team, you play for the

big inning.

If you're the home team, of course you

have an opportunity if you hold the road

team to zero to do some small ball

there.

Road team, I feel like you got to

grab the bull by the horns and play

for that big inning.

You want to make sure you get one

run absolutely, but man, you got to try

and expand as much as you possibly can.

Try and get two.

Try and get three.

Look, Diaz intentional walk, first and third now.

Definitely a guy that you got to be

careful of.

If you're upset about the intentional walk, Yandy

Diaz rakes against lefties.

I'll look up the numbers.

Maybe I know earlier in the season, I

looked this up with Diaz when the Rays

were teetering, weren't as dominant as they are

right now in terms of their win-loss.

Diaz against lefties has an 870 OPS.

He's better against lefties than righties.

I think you definitely want the double play

ball in order.

There was one out.

They had just given you a free out

with a bunt.

If you can get a Ronda to roll

over on a double play ball, the inning's

over.

I do not think at all Skip's management

in the top of the 10th can be

questioned.

However, as I was saying in the bottom

of the ninth, I thought it was quite

idiotic that you didn't attempt to get Zeke

Duran to second base until the last pitch

of the inning.

That was stupid.

I did not agree with that decision.

You've got to get Zeke Duran to second

base in the burger at bat.

You want two opportunities with a runner on,

with a runner in scoring position to try

and win that game.

You get Zeke Duran down to second in

the burger AB.

Burger's got a shot.

Carter's got a shot.

And you know what?

If you get thrown out, you still have

an opportunity.

Burger with one swing, we know he can

put the ball out of the ballpark.

You had just watched Evan Carter put the

ball out of the ballpark.

It was not all hope is lost, even

if he would have gotten thrown out there.

That slider needs to be yanked low in

And what's so maddening is that this team

actually steals bases at a really good rate

in terms of success.

They don't steal a lot, but when they

do steal often they are safe.

I believe their steal rate is like 75%.

They should be stealing bases more.

Again, Zeke Duran is one of your fastest

players.

You know why it is hurt.

I wouldn't say why it is probably up

at the top right now, but you basically

got Evan Carter.

You got Wyatt and you've got Zeke.

Those are three of your fastest players.

You've got to run Zeke.

One of your fastest ball players in that

ninth inning to get him to second.

I have no clue why you're waiting that

long.

Maybe Zeke doesn't feel comfortable.

These are the questions I'd be asking Skip

Schumacher in the post game.

What was the thought process with not getting

him over there a little bit earlier, maybe

taking an L, so I don't want anybody

to get it twisted.

Jacob Latz is not the reason that they

lost the game solely.

He is one of them, but he is

not the main reason.

The main reason is the Rangers decided to

finally wake up in the season.

They did not wake up until the eighth

inning.

You had seven innings of baseball, and Texas

pretty much wasted beautiful pitching performances from Jacob

deGrom, Tyler Alexander.

The offense, once again, to me, just not

good enough.

Not good enough at all.

Matt talked through the debacle in the bottom

of the ninth inning.

Zeke Duran not stealing?

Yeah, I mean, I don't know if I

would call that a debacle, my guy.

That's a little strong word, but it is

a bad decision.

You got to try and get Zeke Duran

to second base there.

I give praise where it's due.

Some people don't like that.

But what gets me the most is I

think back to all the times in April

and in May and in June where people

will tell you, dude, it's early.

We got 100 games left.

Dude, calm down.

This is why you get pissed off about

dropping easy games at the beginning of the

season.

This is why you do not accept bad

losses in game 20 or in game 40.

The losses all count the same, man.

And some people just will never get that.

Somehow it's okay to lose easy games early

on in the year.

And I can think of a plentiful, a

bountiful amount of games that the Rangers should

have won this year and didn't.

And it was quickly excused by a number

of Rangers fans as being okay because it's

early.

And this is why you will never catch

me ever uttering those words.

Every single game matters.

And you're seeing why right now in this

playoff race.

You're seeing why getting swept in Anaheim matters.

You're seeing why losing a game to Colorado

matters.

You're seeing why losing 15 combined games between

the Angels and A's matters.

We could go on.

We could go on.

talked about this team and the inability consistently

to meet the moment.

You need a big time performance and Jacob

Latz gives up a three run bomb.

It's not all his fault tonight, but meet

You just watch your teammates rally back, bro.

We need you meet the moment.

You just won an emotional game against the

Rays.

You know, you went on Thursday, big win,

and then you lay two eggs back to

This team just does not consistently meet the

moment.

They don't.

When you expect them to really take a

win and build off of it, that's when

they fall flat on their face.

And that has happened all season long, big

time, walk-off huge walk-off win.

Maybe this is it.

I hope that we look back on this

game and this is where it all started.

This is where everything changed.

And this team went on a run to

win it all.

Feels like every time you said that, cause

being the hopeful person that I am.

It gets worse the deeper you dive into

the Wyatt Langford stats.

Wyatt Langford is a streaky hitter.

We know he is dealing with some ailments.

Nevertheless, man, what's going to frustrate me to

no end?

I can already see it happening.

When you've been doing this several years like

I have, you just kind of see the

gamut of social media comments.

You already know people next year are going

to be defending Wyatt fresh out the gate.

He was injured.

That's why he wasn't good.

You can't criticize him.

He was playing through.

He was playing hurt.

Don't criticize Wyatt.

If we're being honest, Wyatt really hasn't had

a strong above average year yet as a

major leaguer.

Has he had some years that are productive?

Sure.

Has he had a strongly above average season

as a Texas Ranger?

No, he hasn't.

We're still waiting for that.

This was supposed to be the year, right?

He was supposed to be stealing bags, dropping

Instead, dude's sitting at 15 homers and 36

RBI, 10 stolen bases.

Wyatt Langford struggles.

You can pretty much point it at the

reason why the Rangers are dropping some games.

They don't have some of their biggest contributors

contributing.

Maybe Josh Young comes back and makes it

all better, but it is a big reason

why the Rangers are not more dynamic offensively.

One of the guys, Wyatt Langford, that Chris

Young, fencer maker banked on being productive isn't

productive this year.

I'm almost sad that I kind of backed

off and I know this is me just

being pissed off tonight, by the way.

So I know that some of y'all

are able to take some of these comments

with a grain of salt, but I'm almost

sad that I backed down off my comments

from earlier in the year, which I told

you guys went viral.

I got grilled for my Wyatt Langford criticism

before he went on that heater.

What was it in June?

I think it was in June.

He went on that wild heater where he

looked like one of the best hitters in

the major leagues.

And my comment at that time was Wyatt

Langford looks like a bottom of the order

hitter right now.

It wasn't even like a seriously over the

top, just hateful comment.

I think my comment was Wyatt Langford is

playing like a bottom of the order hitter

right now.

And look for the majority of this season,

that is accurate.

He plays like a bottom of the order

hitter.

He does.

What, what screams top of the order hitter

about Wyatt Langford's numbers right now?

Not a lot, two 46 average three 27

on base percentage, seven 65 OPS, very mid.

This guy's supposed to be eight 50 plus

hitting bombs, driving in runs, making the Rangers

look offensively elite.

And here we are.

This is a problem I think with a

lot of Rangers.

And you know what, to Justin Foscue's credit,

he came through in a big moment today.

And that was one of my knocks on

him is that he did not come through

in the clutch.

Foscue came in through, through in the clutch

today, but I will agree.

It feels like a lot of Rangers hitters.

Yeah, you can get hits when the game

doesn't matter.

When the game's not on the line, Matt,

the comment from YouTube here says, Elvis said

it best.

Nothing good about tonight.

I don't take away any positives about tonight.

I mean, you can log Jacob to Grom.

He gave up a couple of homers.

I know, you know, some people were upset

about it.

And even I commented like, you know, it's

one of the biggest games of the year.

So of course, Jacob to Grom has given

up a first inning home run to make

it one, nothing early, you know, and to

Grom settled to his credit, he settled in,

but you hate giving up that bomb in

the first inning gives up another solo shot.

At this point, it's just such a thin,

fine margin for error.

And a home run is just deflating in

and of itself.

But yeah, you can't blame to Grom for

tonight.

deGrom should be able to get a

win, allowing to earn runs, man.

He just should.

There's no other way.

Yeah.

Look, Mason, I'm with you on this.

Last year comment says I was the guy

saying Zeke shouldn't be on the roster.

I'm glad to be wrong.

He's one of the few great pieces on

the team.

I said, Zeke Duran's days coming into spring

training.

I said, if Zeke doesn't pick it up,

maybe he doesn't break camp.

I said that I don't run away from

any of my takes.

You guys know this, like nobody is going

to bat a thousand when it comes to

their baseball takes.

Absolutely.

Nobody, not even the ones getting paid hundreds

of thousands or millions of dollars to give

their takes.

Nobody's going to get it right a hundred

percent of the time.

So some of you understand that and give

some grace accordingly.

And then you got people trying to dunk

on every bad take online.

Like they don't have any themselves.

It's how it goes.

For me, I 100% felt the same

way about Zeke Duran.

But what you do is you eat a

massive plate of crow.

And you say, dude's having one of the

best seasons of any major league player this

year.

I mean, he, he could be in the

running for platinum glove.

I'm dead serious.

That's how good the defense has been.

I think there's an argument.

Zeke Duran could be your platinum glove winner.

He's definitely winning a gold glove.

I don't know what he would have to

do to mess that up.

He might be in the running for platinum

decide to fire him early.

I think they'll at least let his contract

play out.

I don't think Ray Davis wants to pay

CY and another president of baseball ops on

I would be very surprised if it did

that being said, see why I think has

been very unquestionably below average the last two

years with some of the decision-making and

all you need to say out loud for

that to make sense is you haven't made

the playoffs the last two seasons.

That to me is another thing like, you

know, anyone who's just constantly defending the organization

or trying to clap back at people like,

oh, you, you think you know better than

the front office.

Well, I mean, the front office hasn't made

the playoffs the last two years.

Like how right could they really be?

If you're missing October and sitting on the

couch while everyone else is playing playoff baseball

to play off appearances in the last decade,

people forget this.

Like did people forget?

We haven't made the playoffs in the last

10 years.

Besides the world series year, people forget this

and people have the audacity to call me

a non-fan of the team because I'm

negative or criticize when it's rightful to do

so tonight there's criticism warranted.

Like if you are a continuing fan of

this team, if you're a diehard of this

team after enduring the last 10 years, minus

the world series year, you're a real one.

No question about it.

It's easy to be a fan when they're

winning the world series, man.

Some of us have been fans since the

nineties, late nineties, man.

I remember watching the Rangers going through the

pain of some of those Yankees defeats.

Then you get into the early 2000, some

of the dark years, like fun teams, but

not really good.

Then you hit the world series years, all

the pain and heartache from 10 and 11.

And then you even had some competitive years

after that.

But the last 10 years, been a lot

of dark years, a lot of dark years.

Hollywood's good.

Ray Davis should just sell.

I don't think Davis is selling.

I think he is content to sit on

this one.

I don't know if he's going to be

offering up the team anytime soon.

Neither do I think he's wanting to put

himself out in terms of money.

So that's why I said, I don't think

that they're going to fire CY before the

contract is up.

I don't know what the contract is at

right now.

I'll look it up real quick.

Chris Young, Rangers contract.

Let's check it.

Feels like he signed a four-year deal.

Could be wrong on that.

He signed a multi-year contract extension in

2024.

The precise length of the multi-year extension

were not publicly disclosed.

So he's in a multi-year deal.

Don't know how long that multi-year deal

is.

But you would imagine it's either up after

next year or the year after.

For me, I don't think CY has been

good enough.

And there's a huge argument to be made

that John Daniels is a bigger contributing factor

to that World Series win than even Chris

Young is.

I would credit John Daniels and Bruce Bochy

before I credited CY.

I know CY makes the Chapman move.

He makes the Montgomery move.

He gets credit.

Don't get me wrong.

He gets credit.

We've been through the gamut though on Daniels

versus Young.

You had, first of all, Daniels drafting a

majority of the players that were on the

World Series team.

He drafted Josh.

He drafted JJ.

He drafted Evan Carter.

He traded for Adolis Garcia.

He traded for Jonah Heim.

I mean, the list goes on, man.

We could be here all day.

Fingerprints of John Daniels are all over that

World Series team.

Shoot.

John Daniels did the Gallo trade that brought

us back Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran.

There's a number of moves.

We could be here for a while.

Look, Daniels, to me, gets more credit than

CY.

CY gets some credit.

100% he gets credit.

But I go Bochy.

I go Daniels.

And CY is third.

Mm.

I absolutely feel like Chris Young should be

on the hot seat.

It should be a lot more pressureful.

But I don't know if you're going to

get a lot of media people doing that.

Doesn't really seem like it.

It's not really the nature.

A lot of what appears to be nice

people, I've never met any of them personally,

but they appear to be nice people.

I just don't think you're going to get

a lot of people really applying a lot

of pressure to Chris Young.

I mean, the hard questions need to be

asked, though.

What kind of evaluation do you do of

yourself?

What onus do you take for the Rangers

not making the playoffs three years in a

row?

Those awkward questions need to get asked.

That kind of pressure is needed and necessary

when you're in a run like this.

I would agree that the heat needs to

little bit on this team.

It really does.

You easily could have gone out and acquired

more talent and been in a better spot,

Rangers decided to do nothing and just continue

the trend of mediocrity, which has plagued them

The inability to stack wins, the inability to

them for 143 games.

Ks.

Alexander came in after that and threw a

shutout inning, had a little bit of traffic.

deGrom was good enough tonight.

Rasmussen, he's definitely one of the greats in

the league right now.

The dude just doesn't allow a lot of

traffic.

This was never going to be some seven

that, but I think you're expecting a little

bit more pressure than what the Rangers were

able to put on the race today.

You had three or four hits through eight

innings before you had the Foscue hit and

the Evan Carter home run.

Rasmussen was good, no doubt, but that is

just a tired excuse at this point.

We could say that every single night the

Rangers do this.

The other pitcher was good.

Same old, same old story.

Defense was phenomenal from Zeke Duran.

I think, like I said, you got to

think about him, platinum glove.

the ball, and based on what happened tonight,

the job has changed a little bit, man.

You've got to be the guy that salvages

You lose tonight, and so suddenly Gore is

trying to Texas from dropping three of four

to the Rays at home.

Gore, by the way, enters with an 8

-10 record, 431 ERA, 169 strikeouts.

Tampa hasn't officially locked the starter yet, but

CBS is currently projecting Seymour.

However, they sometimes use the opener with Seymour,

so I don't think that you can necessarily

lock any kind of pitching matchup.

It's going to be curious to see how

Skip designs the lineup tomorrow.

I'm already circling Gore versus the top of

this lineup.

You've got Caminero.

You've got Yandy Diaz.

You have Aranda, who hit the big home

run tonight.

Gore definitely has the swing and miss stuff

to make this matchup work, but Tampa doesn't

give you a whole lot of cheap innings,

and I think we've seen that pretty consistently

in this series.

Tampa's bullpen, though, not completely whole.

That could be a weakness exposed tomorrow.

I would love if Texas could really get

to the starting pitcher quick, whether it's Seymour

in a bulk roll.

If you can get to the bullpen for

the Rays, feels like a little bit of

a weakness for them right now, but at

this point, I got to be honest with

It is hard to dig deep for this

positivity right now.

They waited tonight until the last six outs

to start breathing.

deGrom, I think, met the moment.
